Not many. I think Armstrong could but wouldn´t necessarily. Napoles has a good shot as have Griffith and Rodriguez. Leonard could do it too. I´d bet on Hearns to beat him.
It does seem Gavilan & Robinson's peaks were slightly separated. I'd bet on the 1951 Gavilan to fare a bit better against a 1948 Robinson, if only slightly on account of being less open to Robinson's counters. I reckon Gavilan could grab one in a trilogy.
He had the speed. He had the strength up close. Lacking in finer points on the outside, but Gavilan couldn't hurt him and he'd get in.
Well, Britton had his number, and McFarland was a level above either man. I just don't see someone like Lewis being on the level of a Gavilan, nor having the style to gain any kind of upper hand (on the inside he'd be nullified and out-pointed, on the outside he'd be out-jabbed and out-boxed). I think he gets a bit overrated.
