You don't comprehend at all what I'm saying. And you think I am the idiot? Jones was every bit as dominant as he was bad in the final fights. So it is entirely possible that he was good enough to limit those fighters to lesser connect percentages than that. It's unlikely I admit. However, I also freely state that Jones was far more offensive than Mayweather, and landed at a much higher percentage at his peak, leaving himself open more. I feel Jones is better overall defensively than Mayweather.
What do you mean by the highlighted part? His opponents in title fights only land 23 punches on average? Per fight? I call incredible BS if tha's what you mean. Maybe not B level, but Floyd stuggles a lot worse with a guy like Hatton than Roy does against a much better fighter like Toney. Or Hopkins. And Floyd stuggles with a guy like Castillo or an old DLH, when Roy takes care of similar fighters like Virgil Hill in 4 rounds.
True, and I don't get how anyone says Floyd is better than Roy, based on their styles and effectiveness. Say he is more of a defensive fighter all you want, but he's not a better fighter.
Lmao. Floyd had a torn rotator cuff for that fight, and fought one handed. Is that the best you could come up with cokey? Floyd fighting one handed? And Castillo's a B level fighter now lmao? You do know this was back in 2002, and Castillo was considered one of the top lightweights in the world dont you? Fool name a B level fighter Floyd struggled with. He doesnt struggle with A levels lol. 5 punches per round. Get your head around that for a minute. 19 is the average for a welter. Wow. Wow. Like I said you cant nuthug greatness. Muther****er we are talking abotu defense. stop bringing in **** that dont matter to the discussion. now you are saying Roy is better offensviely. No **** idiot. I said defense. and in history there hasnt been a better defensive fighter then Floyd p4p. Just look at the stats. Floyd makes you miss inches away, his technique is miles above Roy's, for the simple fact once Roy lost his athletic dominance, he got beat the **** up.
At Floys lower weights I would argue that he might be a tad better for how he was offensively but as he's gone up in his weight, his power did not carry so he does not waste punches anymore. His offense was more complete as lower weights then it is now. At Floyds lower weight Floyd was a tad better if not just equal. As Floyd has gone up his offense has slowed and comparing Floyd now to a prime Jones. Jones is better but if you break down each thing. Defense and Offense. Floyd takes defense and Roy takes offense by a mile. I don't really think there should be an argument, both are different and both are ****ing great fighters which most of us got to see.
Impossible statement. Compubox has only been keeping stats for 20yrs. Boxing has been around much longer than that. Mayweather may be the least hit fighter in the past 20 yrs. Your stats, though incomplete, lead in that direction. He was not however, the best defensive fighter. Whitaker threw many more punches, and therefore was open more. He was however, harder to hit than Mayweather. Jones was far more offensive as well.
It means he +23 punches. Which means he landes 23 more then what his opponents land per round. His opponents average 5 punches per fight. Maybe not B level now eh. Lmao. Couldnt find any B level fighters he's struggled with? You see this is why I dotn debate with crack heads, because they dont know ****. How did Floyd struggle with Hatton? Hatton landed above 10 punches once in the fight. One round he landed punches double digits. How did he struggle? What are you smoking? Different styles dumbass, Floyd beats you with defense and timing, Roy Jones beat people because he was just naturally physically gifted. Which is the reason, when his abilities left Jones, his lack of boxing technique showed. All of Floyds fights are planned to finish the way they do. Just because he doesnt knock a muther****er out doesnt mean he's struggling. I've seen muther****ers knock someone out in 5 and struggle. Floyd does the most with little detriment to himself.
You like to stretch the truth a bit. There was 4 or 5 fight point in Mayweather's career that his opponents landed 5 punches a round against him. Not overall. And Jones doesn't have a lack of technique. He has an ego problem and didn't adjust his style when his athleticism left to make up for it. Tell me how reflexes can tell you WHERE to move to dodge a punch, or HOW to slip a punch? Reflexes only help you do it better, not how to do it. Those are skills. You seem to lack the fundemental understanding of that.
So you saying Roy had defensive technique? So dropping your gloves and dancing around a fighter sticking your chin out and mocking them every time they swing and miss is technique? I just call that god given ability.
There's a difference between a round and a fight, learn it. Have you seen the fight? I don't give a **** if Floyd was landing more accurately, for the first 5 or 6 rounds that was a pretty even fight. Hatton was frustrating Floyd and roughing him up. Floyd started to adapt in the later rounds though. And those stats were BS, no way in hell Hatton landed only 67 punches the whole fight. No, he lost when past his prime because he was too arrogant to adapt his style, as he thought he was still as good as always. He still thinks this, which is why he'll always be at risk, and why he should've retired. Roy beat you with great timing as well, even better than Floyd's. Floyd is naturally physically gifted as well, wouldn't be nearly as good without his physical ability. Let's see if he fights until he's 34. And answer me this, why does he fight De La Hoya again instead of Cotto? He also fights the fighters with the least detriment to himself.
How is Floyd able to move so quickly out of the way of a punch, or move his hands quick enough to block and counter? That is God given ability as well. Both are exceptionally quick, Roy decides to duck and weave them, Floyd relies on blocking them. Roy also relies on making a fight entertaining.
How did he make them miss then? If you don't know how to anticipate the type of punch, you can have all the reflexes in the world. You will simply move right into alot of punches. Are you saying that knowing where to move and how to do so keeping in position to counter is not technical skill? Are you saying that Jones ability to anticipate and diagnose punches and where they were coming from isn't a skill, that it's part of his reflexes?
Thanks for proving to everyone you are the crack smoker we all knew you were. Those stats are officialy compubox numbers and if you had watched the fight like the rest of us, I've seen it atleast 10 times by now personally, then you would know Hatton didnt land anything significant the whole fight, the only fight he was able to apply meaningful pressure was the 5th round where he actually managed to land more then 10 punches. Floyd dominated that fight, Floyd roughed Hatton up on the inside, any boxing analyst will tell you Floyd won the brawl and the finesse portions of the fight. Put down the crack pipe and maybe you'd see the fight clearly. Floyd will last longer then Roy because of his defensive technique. He will always have the shoulder roll, and that will virtually keep boxers from ever knocking him the **** out like Roy has been. Because Oscar is 20 million easy in bank thats why. Cotto wouldnt provide any challenge to Floyd, he'll get his ass tapped too soon enough. Cotto got rocked by Judah, Corley and some other bum. He wont stand a chance against Floyd. That moron actually said the way you beat Floyd is with pressure lmao. I cant wait to see that fight,. Sure sure. Lmao. He could have stayed at superfeather and defended his title for 20 years, but yeah, he took the easy road and moved up to welter and lightmiddle. What a coward.
Instinct+reflexes+god given athletic superiority. He sees a fighter about to throw a punch and he ducks it or swirves out of the way. I dont see that as technique. I see Wright and Mayweather as better technically defensive fighters. I'd say 90% of Roys defensive skills were just him being better.
