He is.....the are two completly diffrent fighters and I can see why one would have an arguement both ways.....BUT...Floyd has better defense then RJ....I dont think that can be argued. Floyd has better D. RJ has more power..after that its a wash.
I think Kessler although one dimensional to a degree, is still an elite fighter. I wouldn't say he is better then Cotto though. Cotto overall has faced more experience, more dangerous opposition then Kessler by far and prevailed every time. Until Kessler can beat guys like Chad Dawson, or Arthur Abraham or solid contenders in other divisions i refuse to put him next to Cotto. Really Kesslers best win is Mundine, who although talented has flaws especially in his psyche as a fighter.
Mosely is better than all of them, even in this current state, obviously. Judah and Mundine are direct comparisons P4P. Andrade is Margarito, with real KO power and a better chin. Cotto would kill Margarito though, so it's irrelevant. And Beyer is of course your Quintana level contender/paper titlist all in all. Beyer is a flawed, not the most durable B level fighter and Quintana is the same thing, Quintana has one of the worst foot positioning stance that I ever seen and leans right into his opponent, but has a solid jab and good punching technique and head movement. Beyer is an average euro high guard fighter with decent timing, you know the drill.
There were larger mountains to be moved to make the Lewis vs Tyson fight (networks, promoters, ring announcers, etc)... but it was made because it was the best fight in boxing. Well this is too, and the only way it doesn't get made is if Floyd doesnt want to fight Cotto or vice versa. I just cant buy into this promotional arguement, put enough cheese under the rats chin and he will do anything to get it.
Abraham isn't even worth mentioning, he'd likely lose to Mundine in an embarassingly wide decision. How do you see Kessler doing against the Mosely of 07 P4P fantasy match up?
Oh lord..P4P Mosley was a creature....too much speed...to much power. and is it just me or Kessler stiff as hell when he fights.
You see Im of the opinion that this is a matter of how you define defense. If you are talking well rounded skill set, its Floyd. If your talking about not getting hit (whether it be by countering, or freaky reflexes like Roy's, or whatever it may be), then its less clear cut. How many people hit Roy in his prime? Or had him on ***** street?
There is NOTHING bout Kessler that is elite. You can make an argument Calzaghe has elite speed and boxing skills. Keslers power isnt even elite...ask Andrade.
Let's see what you're missing here - One of the best jab's in boxing, top 5. Great handspeed/delivery Good footwork with deceptively quick feet Precise punching Consistent solid defence Master of judging range .......... Oh and I'll correct you on something there Too Pretty. While he's certainly not a Cristian Mijares off the backfoot genius, he's good off the backfoot and can effectively circle and time shot after shot from this style of fighting, on top of his normal boxer-puncher pressure routine.
Certainly it can be argued. At best, you can argue that Mayweather has a more diversified defense than Jones showed. That doesn't not mean it was more effective, just as having a more diverse offense doesn't make you more effective, especially if you are so good at the one thing you do that no one can stop it. Come to think of it, how can you argue that in a factual manner when Jones was hit less than Mayweather? Whether the punches were blocks or missed entirely?
Hey... ****head... You are the one getting slapped around here defending the ridiculous notion that Floyd is superior to the great Roy Jones Jr. Just sign out and don't come back.:yep
I don't get it. Who at WW beats Cotto if you have him beating Floyd? I have Floyd losing to Williams, and possible Cotto. Wouldn't that make Cotto better in your opinion? Kessler's had trouble with lesser fighters as well, and worse fighters than Cotto. Andrade is no Margarito. Stop with that. Just because their styles are similar means nothing. One is close to elite against top comp, the other is nowhere near it in a lesser division. Margarito>Andrade. Either way, Cotto has been far more impressive to me than Kessler. Far more.
In the Welter division, Cotto is better. I meant 'all time' with that statement. Kessler had little to no trouble with anybody outside of his loss to Calzaghe. And I disagree, Margarito is total ****, Andrade is of the same calibre with a more potent punch and slightly quicker feet and a better jaw. And aside from Shane, Cotto and Floyd, Welterweight is really nothing to be impressed about, SMW is just as stacked a division in terms of skill and talent. In certain ways, Cotto brutalises his opponents better, but also shows a lot more vulnerabilities.
