So it is claimed on the title of the video: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLH3Cophvwo[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hxp1StsI_DI[/ame] Another great upload by RareBoxing. Perhaps someone here can clear up what film this could be? I've never seen it before myself. Interesting fight nonetheless, regardless of the fighters. Early 1900's action.
I'm almost certain that this is the third encounter between Tate and Norfolk. The fight took place on the undercard of Jack Dempsey v. Bill Brennan at Madison Square Garden. Also, if you examine the footage of Dempsey/Brennan, which is also on my channel, and compare it to Tate/Norfolk, you'll see that the camera position and ring lighting are almost identical.
Yes, you're probably right. I'm just very surprised to see a Kid Norfolk fight. :good The Dempsey-Brennan fight: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wahpl5xrMI[/ame]
I wonder how a fight between Norfolk and Dempsey would have gone based on the form each displayed here, Norfolk against Tate, Dempsey against Brennan.
Your uploads have been consistently amazing over the past few months. I express sincere thanks to you.
Agreed.:good This is some amazing footage, considering that Norfolk was giving away 10 inches in height and 50 pounds in weight yet he made it look relatively easy against Tate.
As he doesn't (appear) to have any Greb I'm officially giving up any small hope I ever had I'll add that Norfolk looks quality in the footage. There's a moment where he slips a big right hand and responds with his own that was breathtaking. The way he constantly throws the left hook from the crouch and the jab he shoots to the body, he looks like he could compete with most era's best. Another Greb opponent now readily available: the man was a marvel.
Dempsey fans won't like this one. Dempsey should have fought Norfolk, what is the excuse for that one? Norfolk looks pretty damm good here
A Dempsey/Norfolk fight certainly would have been interesting. Their respective styles not being too dissimilar, may have made for a cracking bout. By the way, I'm glad you're all appreciative of my uploads. It was never my intention to upload so many videos, but after seeing such a positive reaction on the internet, and, in particularly, this forum, I feel obligated to do so. Finally, Fleaman, if you wanted Greb footage, all you had to do was ask. I haven't bothered uploading any Greb as I didn't think anyone woulde be interested, after all, who wants to watch Greb?
Rare Boxing, Do you have any rare heavyweight fights from the 1940s or 1950s? I would absolutely love to see them. I have collected a lot myself, but more are out there.
I haven't got many heavyweight fights from the 40's/50's, that I haven't seen elsewhere. I have Jimmy Bivins v. Charlie 'Doc' Williams, which I haven't come across anywhere else. A few others such as; Baer/Nova, Charles/Bivins, Satterfield/Layne, although I think these are fairly common.
Epic uplaod. Squint, though, and it could be Wills-Langford. Norfolk looks great, love the jab to the midriff and the leaping left hook and he's as strong as a bull, and looks smart, too. You've also got to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he is boxing within himself. Because Tate looks hit. I mean he looks awful. I can't think of a fighter from the era who looks worse. Can anyone help me out with some redeeming features here?
All I can say in Tate's defense is that he looks better against Dempsey, more mobile, more active. Based on the Norfolk film, he has a jab, and that's about it, not counting his size. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wxHY3p9DiQ[/ame]
Even his jab is awful; straight lines, no variety, doesn't double it up, and how many times does he manage to time Norfolk, who is leaping in a straight line right at him (why not, if it is working?)? It's not a great jab IMO. He even gets handled by Norfolk. I am pretty shocked by this.
