    [/QUOTE]MARTINEZ APOLINAR

We still had in mind the slaughter of the Munich Olympics, we cover to Meridian, to be part of the delegation that attended the meeting of the best athletes on the planet, when we received orders to accompany the boxer Antonio Cervantes, "Kid Pambelé" , who went to his second opportunity to contest a world title, this time against the Isthmian Alfonzo "Peppermint" Frazer. Pambelé already had fought in Buenos Aires with Niccolino Locche, and judgment of the learned judges stripped.

We never imagined Meridian photographer Amilcar Ruiz, the narrator of Radio Rumbos Luis Enrique Arias, both prematurely disappeared, and myself, we would be witnesses in the same day, October 28, 1972, two events as contradictory, but at the same time as news: Obtaining Pambelé crown and the hijacking of a plane that would be taken to Panama curiously. But go by.

    Forged in Venezuela

The life of Antonio Cervantes, which have been written hundreds of articles, a book and even songs, is worthy of a detailed study by psychologists, sociologists and commentators boxing. Born in Palenque, near Cartagena, son of a boxer medium qualities, ended viniéndose to Venezuela, almost running, in an attempt to try his luck. And had it.

Ramiro Machado, sharp handler boxers from the outset qualities appreciated in the Colombian boxer, he put his hand to a coach serious, responsible and fluent in the business: Melquiades "Tabaquito" Sanz, who became a sort of surrogate father for "Cervantes" and called it good.
After a successful career, Locche challenged before the fall, Machado won the fight I expected: The dispute of the junior welterweight crown against Panama Peppermint Frazer. And there were, Meridian went because I had ordered cover the fight.

    What kind of champion!
No punches, no quarter. Those two men went into battle after the victory. But from the first round Pambelé imposed pace of the fight and the fifth was all decided:

Colombia won his first world boxing title
Pambelé extraordinary Boxísticamente defended his title ten times falling to his punches himself Locche Argentine, who banished forever from the ensogados. Wilfredo Benitez who would snatch the crown by decision in 1976, which then recover to definitely lose in 1980 to Aaron Pryor
By its action on the strings Kid Pambelé is for just cause in the Hall of Fame Boxing

    Ah, the drug
I could not charge the envious destination but this successful boxer to have come from nowhere and win as much money as quickly and easily to.

Induced "new friends" quickly gave the drug world that virtually ruined as an individual, making him lose property, money and even family. Carried rehabilitation sites with relative success now holds almost zombie life in Palenque where he was born.

"Engenders hope everyone else who saw their dreams could realize as I did to be crowned world champion", often said.

Cheers Flea, i really love it when past boxers are celebrated in any way shape or form. Its no mystery that many fall of the tracks after their career has finished, but to show them they are not forgotten and let them relive the glory days again can only be a great thing.

We were lucky enough in Australia to present Lionel Rose with a statue before he passed, i believe one of Fammo is in the works too.

It's great to see these guys as old blokes. Sad when they're not in the greatest health of course, but I love to see what these hard men are getting up to in old age and that they're getting their due.

You seen Lionel's 'This Is Your Life'? Awkward as **** But really lovely viewing.
