There was some debate over this issue. There's an update of sorts.. Info from boxing writer Steve kim. His partner Doug Fischer claimed he too had Ricardo Mayorga ahead and winning the fight at the time of the KO.

Also, apparently several people confronted Jin Mosley during and after the fight and warned her not to allow Shane to fight Margarito.

I did too, clearly for Mayorga

HBO commentary was absolute **** making it sound like it was a schooling on Mosely's part.

But Mosely got the TKO and there really shouldnt be any controversy about it

I dont think Kim's accurate in his assesment that 2 of 3 writers had Mayorga up.
I'd be suprised if that were true. Mayorga's best shots in the fight were while he was hitting and holding, and rabbit punches to the back of Mosely's head!

i think people are being biased against mayorga pretty badly when they talk about mosley dominating... i had mayorga up and so did the other 4 people i was watching it with... and i was being as unbiased as possible, even Dan, a guy i never really agree with... we both were scoring it the same way.

but thats what made the fight even more heartbreaking

    seriously...

I had Mayorga winning and Shane is an all-time favorite of mine.

Mayorga was definitely up but was ko'd. No controversy over the result. Crazy how there is such a split over the scoring up until that point though.

I thought Mayorga had it in the bag until the final round.

I dont think I've heard many people say Mosely dominated.
In fact, most who had Mosely comfortably ahead as I did, have mentioned that Mosely for large portions of the fight looked unimpressive.

However, while Mayorga may have thrown the harder shots, Mosely actually landed the harder, cleaner and more effective shots.

A fighter can be unimpressive but still be winning the fight when the other fighter looks even worse.

What we have here from what I can see is the people may be overcrediting Mayorga, because the expectation was that Mosely would be as impressive against him as Trinidad and DLH were.
.....that was'nt the case, and so it may be a situation where people who scored for Mayorga, actually did so because they were expecting more from Mosely.
......kinda like how alot of the media scored for Leonard over Hagler, because Hagler was expected to steamroll through Leonard!

Kim and 2/3 of ringside media are ****ing idiots! Mosley was clearly ahead, it was a close fight, mostly because Mayorga turned it into a constant wrestling mach after Mosley started timing and teeing off on him, but Mosley was clearly ahead. **** anyone that had Mayorga winning, you're a ******.

I'll always take clean, effective punching over sloppy, ineffective punching. From what I could see, Shane was landing more, and landing cleaner, doesn't matter that Mayorga was throwing more.

So what...Shane won by knockout, and even had the fight not been stopped Wildman would have lost at least 3 points and could have lost more. Anyone that had him up I think is crazy, and I wont say what I think of anyone that had him up by more then 2 or 3 points:nut

It was close, I was rooting for Mayorga big time but I still had Mosley ahead. Mayorga may have seemed more active but it wasn't effective.

Mayorga was the one initiating most of the clinches in the second half of the fight.

The way I saw it, Mayorga was the one being negative because he saw that Shane was timing him and landing consistentely from rounds 4-6, so he resorted to clinching and hugging to keep Shane from launching his power shots. Smart tactical decision, but since he never got off any kind of effective offense to go along with it, I counted the excessive clinching against him. I felt that even during these rounds, Mosley was still launching the better offense, even if he was a bit inactive due to Mayorga's awkward spoiling tactics. To sum things up, I had Shane ahead going into the 12th, and he scored a clean KO anyway, so it was a clear Mosley victory all the way.
