Ken Shamrock is 44, has lost 8 of his last 10 fights. Lost 5 of his last 5 fights. He hasn't won a fight in 4 years, before that 7 years winning last in '01. He's shot and washed up, to say the least.
Heres a relevant video. My god man is this serious?! What on earth is Ken thinking? Ken retired for this?! Is he really that hard up or looking for a pay day?
I knew it was coming, but it's still a sad, sad day for MMA. I can just hear the announcers going on and on about how Kimbo "just knocked out the World's Most Dangerous Man!" And all the casual fans will be thinking, "He just crushed a legend in the sport!" Meanwhile, the rest of us will slowly shake our heads as a guy who hasn't won a fight in ages gets walloped once again. This match-making is sickening. Either give Kimbo a legit opponent or let him fight an unknown bum. Stop feeding him "name" bums, so as to make him look all super awesome. Have another cheeseburger and a coronary Gary Shaw.
Shaw will ride the Kimbo freight train until the wheels fall off. He`ll make himself and Kimbo some nice easy money. Kimbo should have turned pro as a boxer and fought for Frank Warren. He`d be a millionaire by now..
Ken has been KO'd in 5 of his last 5 fights. This doesn't bode well for him. He doesn't have the reflexes to keep up with the younger fighters any more. scurlaruntings: I read somewhere this week that Shaw has distanced himself from Elite XC as it is about to go under. Perhaps this is just a rumor.
I think if Shamrock works 100% wrestling and groundfighting he CAN beat Kimbo. Thompson almost beat Kimbo on the ground, and Kimbo has stamina issues, a lot of grappling could tire him out and leave him open for the submission. I think this may be Kimbo's most dangerous fight yet (Maybe Thompson was worse, but due to style's I don't think so.) This being his most dangerous fight shows quite a bit about where he stands as a fighter...
Kens GnP was never that great. His chin resistance is even worse. In his last fight he was KO`ed by the following wind of Robert Berrys punch. Against Kimbo he either gets KO`ed again and quick or Kimbo gets submitted with a heel hook.
