Mercer was not a bum. But he wasn't just "past his prime" either. He was completely and utterly shot. He turns 47 this year FFS! atsch
I was wondering myself. The Showtime broadcast started at 10 but I dare not switch away from Mijares-Navarro as this fight is the reason I ordered the PPV.
Just checked between rounds, there's a three-rounder in progress. So it'll be probably at least half an hour. Whereas Pavlik-Taylor should be in about an hour.
I said in my post that he was well past his prime, his last significant fight before fighting Kimbo was Wlad in 02, where he fought bravely, but in the end Wlad was too much for him to handle at 42.
Kimbo wrecked Abbot, reminded me alot like a Tyson fight in the 80's. It was just a brawl for like 10 seconds, then Tank was dropped to the canvas and Kimbo hit him in the back of the head a few times. He got a warning, then just connected with punches. Abbott fell like two more times, then Kimbo just owned him and the ref stopped the fight. Kimbo's looking pretty good....
Ok this fight showed skill from Slice even though it was against old Abbot. He definitely has a lot of potential though he is 34. We'll see what happens. I still wanna see him fight someone decent. See how he handles the ground and what his conditioning is gona be like. P.S. Punisher, some "bum" that I was refering to is his first pro MMA fight which was again Cartnell or somethin like that. I wouldn't call Mercer "some bum" but I would say "Ancient Mercer who is completely shot."
