Nice fight. This is the kind of fight that can make kimbo look good. Both are pretty good strikers so i expect somebody to get KTFO.
I really don't know where this Kimbo thing is headed. I saw Kimbo right around the time everyone else was discovering him. A friend of mine was watching bare knuckle fights on youtube, and one of titles had "Kimbo protege" in it. I thought to myself, "who the hell is Kimbo." I did a youtube search, and watched all his fights. A couple months later, I saw he was rumored to be fighting Ray Mercer. I thought that Kimbo was a tough guy as far as the regular public was concerned, but Ray Mercer would make an example of him if this were to truly come off. Then I saw it was official. Kimbo Slice and Ray Mercer would indeed be fighting in a contest under mma rules. I learned that Slice was being trained by Rutten, and saw some of the training footage. I saw that Kimbo was taking this seriously, and started questioning my prediction. I still went with Mercer, and laid a small wager on an online gambling site. I lost a few dollars that night. Kimbo took the fight to Mercer, as though to make Mercer aware that this was anything except a boxing match. Mercer just reacted as he would in a boxing ring. Mercer looked as though he was waiting on Kimbo o shoot his load, and then respond. Then a bit of grappling came into play, and Kimbo submitted Mercer in what was later labeled an exhibition. The next thing I know, Kimbo is the next big thing. Not in the mma stream, they knew to be skeptical. Kimbo was being talked about in the main stream. Kimbo had a name bigger than mma. I know boxing, and know it fairly well. I don't pretend to be Georgie Bention, Cus D'Amato, or anyone like that. I do have experience in this field as a participant, trainer, manager, and promoter. Kimbo has above average boxing skills for an mma fighter. I also have bjj experience. I'm not a blue belt, so you won't be hearing a lot of technical instruction from me here. I just know enough to know that my boxing knowledge is no where near enough to make it in mma. I say all this because I have always doubted Kimbo's ground game. I thought Tank had a real chance against Kimbo, again I was proved wrong. I thought it was a mistake to match Kimbo against an opponent with as many fights as James Thompson. Against Thompson, I was partially right. Thompson made Kimbo look like a novice, but showed that Kimbo had a lot of heart. When the fight with Shamrock was made, I still thought they were giving him fighters with too much experience. It's not that these are out of his league athletically, but I knew all of them were probably much more capable on the ground. I eventually picked Kimbo to beat Shamrock, based mostly on recent performances. Kimbo did what he needed against Mercer, and Shamrock was developing a knack for getting knocked out. I still felt like the Shamrock fight was 50/50, and that Shamrock could win by trying one of those leg lock attempt take downs. It's not as though Shamrock would have to land the leg lock attempt, I thought he was capable of winning by pulling guard. Then Shamrock was out, and Petruzelli was in. I did not know Petruzelli. I did a quick search on him, and started to pick him to win because he had wrestling experience. I did not know that he would drop Kimbo with a counter punch, and ground and pound his way to a ko in the first few moments of the fight. If Kimbo were challenging for a title, or getting a fight with Randy Couture, I might complain. I am not offended by the fact that Kimbo is getting a shot in the UFC. Kimbo has a official wins over Tank Abbott and James Thompson, one of which has fought in the UFC. Kimbo also has an "exhibition" win over Ray Mercer. Mercer did ko former UFC champ Tim Sylvia. These are not stellar credentials, but show he is not a complete bust in mma. Kimbo has done just enough to show that is tale is not yet completed. I've read that this season's TUF has higher ratings than any other season, and that is due to Kimbo Slice. The public may be owed decent fighters, but it is also due fighters it wants to see. The public clearly wants to see Kimbo fight. The UFC is matching him with Houston, and that is not a gimmie opponent. I think it is an even match up, and I am near 50/50 on a winner. If Houston had not shown the ability to leg kick, I'd make Kimbo my clear favorite. Leg kicks and a speed advantage can spell doom in a fight sure to remain on its feet. I'm slightly leaning toward Kimbo by stoppage, due mainly to his size advantage. Kimbo has proven me wrong before, I don't want to pick against him in a match up where he could actually have the stylistic advantage.
It looks like this fight is most likely going to happen. I take it this fight will be at Heavyweight/catchweight, can't see Kimbo going down to 205 right away. http://mmajunkie.com/news/16659/hou...ac-license-meeting-kimbo-at-tuf-10-finale.mma
i cant wait to see this fight,i dont see either guy going for a takedown.i really want to see how kimbos training is going down there at the a.t.t in flordia
Kimbo is pretty much ripped to shreds at 235ish. I doubt he could afford to sweat off as much weight.
I think Alexander has the better technique, but lets not get carried away with him owning Kimbo. Alexander was hurt against Jardine and was flattened with one punch by Irvin, so I can 100% see Kimbo catching him and putting him out. This is about as good of a fight as can be made with both guys at this point.
Houston fought his last fight at heavy. Im not sure what he came in at but it will probably be around the 215 mark if that. No way Kimbo makes 205.
I don't blame the UFC for this at all, because they are a business and Kimbo can make money. But I do however, blame Dana White for once again being a hypocrit. Kimbo got dominated and beaten in the first round of TUF. Dana criticized other orgs for disgracing the sport with circus type matches like this and said Kimbo would only ever be in the UFC if he gets through the show first, and now we get this. Seriously Dana White, just start being more honest and less contradicting. He reminds me of my girlfriend the way he spins his words in a circle. Thats all. That being said, I'd be interested in watching this and I think H.A. will blow him out in under a minute....unless Kimbo learns how to superman punch :yep
