What's the difference between winning (or losing) by SPLIT decision versus winning (or losing) by MAJORITY decision? Both seem to indicate that two of the three judges score for one boxer and the other scores for the other. Does it have to do with the score that the "losing" judge has? I noticed that Boxrec shows Mayorga winning by MD, not SD, and that the "losing" judge showed the fight a draw on his scorecard. If he had shown Vargas as the winner, would it then have been a SD for Mayorga?
MD occurs when a judge scores the fight a draw and then the other 2 judges score the fight for the same fighter. Just like last night 1 scored it a draw and the other 2 scored it for Mayorga. So the majority of the judges wanted it for Mayorga with no single judge scoring it for Vargas. SD is when 2 judges score it for fighter A and the 3rd judge scores it for fighter B. So its a "split" decision.
btw, if two judges score a bout a draw and the 3rd has one fighter winning, it's called a Majority Draw...though it just shows a draw at boxrec...
or when 2 judges do not vote for esb posters favourite fighter its called the biggest robbery of all time. there have been a lot of those.
well tonight it could be hill on esb , but i doubt it as i thought he looked well past his sell by date v maske and arslan should outhustle him.
In most sports a win is just a win. In boxing a win is a political statement used to further agendas not necessarily associated with what may or may not have happened in the ring. Get used to it, boxing is really screwed up.
