Bermane Stiverne is back. 44 years old. Hasn't won a fight since 2015. But he's fighting on Saturday against Don King's HW "prospect" Jonathan Guidry lmfao. Well...let me say it like this: Bermane is shot to pieces and shouldn't be anywhere near a boxing ring at this point BUT...Guidry is so terrible i wouldn't be shocked if King Bermane puts him to sleep early. Bermane actually didn't look too bad against Bryan in his most recent fight.
Is this an eliminator for the WBC mandatory spot? Hopefully, then there's a chance we'll get the real trilogy match we've all been waiting for. Wilder v Stiverne 3 Wilder was lucky the referee didn't disqualify him for hitting Bermane around the back of the head in their second fight.
He looks in decent shape on social media though. Apparently he's even training for this one - and not training at the local Taco Bell buffet. Training in a boxing gym.
I was just thinking about making a thread about this and ask why is there no hype. This is the best scheduled hw fight of 2023 and that's just a fact. I'll have a cheeky bet on B-Ware by KO, I doubt Guidry can get an early KO so Bermane will have plenty of time to land his bombs. Let's see if Guidry can take them.
Maybe he's done an Arreola and finally decided to take training seriously. Arreola dropped Ruiz in their fight despite being 40 years old and supposedly well past his prime.
"This is the best scheduled hw fight of 2023 and that's just a fact." Unironically true. There is something morbidly fascinating about whether an 8 years past prime, 2 years inactive, 3 KO defeat streak, 44 year old Stiverne can turn back the clock and beat this small, limited guy, who is 18-1-2, experienced, in his prime, has never been stopped and is coming to win. As a 9/2 underdog the odds are firmly against it but I'll certainly be tuning in.
I guess we’ll know a bit more after the weigh in tomorrow, but I don’t see Stiverne losing to a guy like Guidry unless he completely gives up.
