He made Mike Tyson, and when Tyson turned on Don, well look at his ass now.

 

there is only so much he can do....i mean, he obviously made fighters who they are, it's up to them to take care of their finances......

Don didn't use his evil powers to buy the ref...that guy was babying the bull all night.

 

Don King, who was a numbers runner for the Cleveland Mafia, and did time for stomping a smaller man to death at gunpoint, never "made" any fighter. He has snatched established fighters away from their mangers. Mike Tyson is a good example. After D'mato and Jacobs died Tyson was unhappy with Cayton and defected to King after some expert wooing by Don. Mike wound up hating King, claiming he screwed him. Tim Witherspoon signed a blank contract for Don, not a good move. Of course King took advantage.Probably King is no less or more moral than Bob Arum, just more successful at the art of the shady deal.

 

I'd recommend a book called 'The Life and Crimes of Don King', cant remember the author but one of the best books ive ever read.

Some of the things the guy got away with are incredible, was investigated by the FBI for years but always escaped prosecution.

 

Shady deals aside, King is also responsible for bringing some great fights together. There would have never been a "Rumble in the Jungle" without Don. Foreman simply did not want to fight Ali. But Don could sell ice cubes to an Eskimo. Probably in the long run Don was good for boxing, while maybe not so good for some of the boxers he took advantage of.
But name one businessman/gangster that isn't a snake in the grass.

 

He has made nearly every fighter he has dealt with 1 million dollars. Yes he has stolen money from them and is currently holding out on potential great fights.

But have no doubt, Don King has put together some of the greatest fights and events of all time, he will go down in history has one of the greatest promoters ever.

 

Bill Sayton was not a good fit for Mike. Don took Mike under his wing, and got Sayton to quit stealing from him, and made him a star. Mike might hate King, because at this point, Don could hire Mike Tyson to cut the grass in the front of DKP headquarters.
