Looks like King Kalle is going to be the new head of Wasserman boxing following its takeover of Team Sauerland. I cant think of a betterman to be a boxing promoter than Kalle. I wish them the best of luck and hope they smash it. This is good for boxing, comments? This content is protected
Wtf is Wasserman? ...anyway, Kalle hasn't been all that relevant since - idk, probably when Kessler was at his peak. I know he already had Briedis and I think Hrgović? - but that's hardly enough to build a stable around to compete h2h with Matchroom, as I read they are hoping to do.
By the sounds of it they manage a lot of premier league footballers and NFL and NBA players. Kalle mentioned they have coverage across 30 countries around the world. It looks like they have big money behind them too. So this isn’t a joke.
Well you can be a billionaire and it can still be that you DKSAB and won't succeed in this very specialized and cutthroat game. Ted Turner craps hundos and he ultimately couldn't hang with Vince McMahon, a born and bred wrestling promoter, despite having a monetary advantage. There are some industries you can't just throw money at, there's a savvy needed that comes with experience. I guess Kalle does have some of that, but he was hardly ever undisputed King of Euro boxing, or even close to it.
Why, WBSS had most competitive tournament unlike very long and boring talks like in HW division. 8 boxers, 1/4, 1/2 final and final. Good intent, btw U.S boxers like Tabiti, Dorticos in CW too had get noticed. even becomed cotenders and some had get belts.
Ofc no but eddie and frank prefers boxers from ........... U.K market isn't so much interesting for clients in Germany, Denmark etc countries.
Oh right, I'd forgotten that was a Sauerland and Ringstar co-promotion, good call. Still doesn't rival the glory days of the Viking Warrior, but yeah, good tourney series despite some hiccups.
I read that Wasserman Boxing is hoping to break into the British scene and banking its success on that...kind of seems like a 'stay in your lane (on the mainland' moment.
where they had hiccups? Btw, I don't think that WBSS CW was bad, for example Dorticos appeared watchable, he beat ppl up and despite he lost in semi final, he get place in WBSS2 cos had been highly ranked and not boring, I think. They get also Tabiti in WBSS 2 and this fight was damn cool stuff: Dorticos vs Tabiti fight for IBF title. Briedis vs Glowacki too looked fun. Yeah, I do know that a lot of polish fans are yelling about this but they does not post how Glowacki fought vs Vlasov and instead of DQ he get in semi final. This was masterclass of dirtyboxe he showed on Vlasov and then polish fans in internet didn't cared about this. Glowacki too didn't filled claims about this fight vs Vlasov. Dorticos WBSS1 : both : 1/4 final where he quickly and in impressive manner had finished boxer and then 1/2 final vs Gassiev, cool fights.
There for example from 10 listed boxers in finals only 3 EE boxers, it wasn't like only european thing. World Boxing Super Series - Wikipedia 3 boxers from U.K. 3 from EE.
Nope it’s not. They have the means to actually challenge Matchroom but they have a very good relationship with them. Think the two of them have enough sway to really take over
I thought WBSS was superb. It breathed life into the SMW and CW divisions, and gave us fights we otherwise would not have got. A tournament like that across different divisions has the potential to make the big names face each other and fight more often.
And they had some serious financial struggles. Like said above, just because someone throws big money around doesnt mean they will succeed in boxing. Al Haymon, who knows boxing, had hundreds of millions and a very though time. Eddie Hearn has a Billion dollar deal and is having his issues. Boxing is rough.
