Why is he training MMA if boxing is better? This defeats the whole purpose:patsch

    He's making a point.

Think of it like this. Toney trains for 3 months and knocks out one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time.

But no MMA fighter has the balls to ever step in a boxing ring because they would systematically be anhilliated because it takes years and years to develop these skills.

Do you think Randy Couture would fight the heavyweight champion of boxing in a boxing match? Or even Brock Lesnar?

    Of course not.

The majority of MMA fighters don't wanna really fight. They wanna do everything they can to make sure a fight doesn't break out by holding their body against the other guy, to make sure nothing happens. Lord help them if they actually get hit.

Mecer and Toney are on completely different levels...grant it..so is Sylvia and Randy. But at the end of the day Toney is by far more a complete fighter than Mercer was.

MMA is a very dynamic sport in the sense there are many elements that are NOT present in boxing....but that's not the issue. The issue is "HOW WELL WILL TONEY DO". Based on his credentials..his talent and ability...the instinct he clearly has not only as a boxer but as a fighter means if he is taking things seriously..his learning curve won't be as hard as the average fighter looking to make it in MMA.

Of course the chips are stacked against Toney! But That's why I love this situation. Toney is always looking for challenges and this is a new ballgame for James. But if he is truly taking this seriously I think you are gonna be surprised at his ability as a MMA fighter. I think he'll lose but I dont' think it's gonna be a blow out. I hope not!

Big difference--if Lesnar boxed he would not be allowed to use his biggest strength which is wrestling.....Toney is allowed to use his boxing in MMA....

Big ups to Toney for taking on the challenge though....

BTW are you a Pro Boxer or training for the Olympics?

He's not strong enough to stop Couture.

None of this means anything. Ultimately Toney is a boxer. The only coup de grace is he has nothing to loose. Whereas Dana and the UFC would have everything to loose.

You really have an twisted view of what a fight is. MMA is much more of a real fight... boxing is boxing. You also have a mixed up view of MMA fighters entering boxing vs boxers entering MMA, ect... It makes no sense.

What does Randy Couture or Brock Lesnar fighting the Heavyweight Champion of the World in a boxing match have to do with anything? I am a huge Wladimir Klitshcko fan... but I sure as hell don't see him being willing to go up against Lesnar in a wrestling match... do you? Of course a top wrestler wouldn't be in a boxing match against the Heavyweight Champion of the world... what would that prove? Same goes with the Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the world against Top wrestler in a wrestling match. It proves nothing.

MMA is the common ground. That is what you don't realize. In MMA a boxer can use his strengths as a boxer and a wrestler can use his strengths as a wrestler.... us fans get to see who's style/strengths win out.

This may be the reason he posted the video to Couture saying if he shoots, he'll choke him. Standing Guillotine is a great move but I'd be impressed if Toney executed it on Randy.

Toney is talented and has the ability to pick up MMA but it all depends on how hard he works. History says Toney doesn't work hard at all and hasn't changed as a fighter since day dot. In fact Toney deterioated rapidly as he moved up in weight, he just stayed successful because he is that tough and the class of his opposition diminshed DRASTICALLY.

So, Lawal says he's stronger then he thought he was. And is complimentary toward Toney.

Do you really, honestly expect him to say anything to the contrary? Do you think that for one second something even remotely negative will come out of his mouth about Toney? Not. A. Chance. In. Hell.

Sort of like a guys S&C coach. Do you expect him to say, "Man, he's really kinda weak. I don't know how he'll do, he's not among the strongest guys I've trained..."? No, they're going to talk their guy up regardless of how well he's doing.

I'll wait until either the fight to see how well he's trained or someone who has objectively viewed Toney's training and gives the yay or nay on how he's doing.

You have reached a level of stupidity that I thought was unattainable.

    Congratulations.

Ultimately Randy is a wrestler...sure he's a vet in MMA and he's honed his craft by learning more demensions to add to his craft but at the end of the day he's more a werstler where Toney is more of a boxer. The MMA fights start on it's feet and that's where Toney is comfortable. But he's not just going in to this as a pure boxer. Toney is no dummy...he's gonna work on everythign.

A picture of a guy who can fight at 205 lifting a 300lber completely off the ground with a high single.

Try that sometime; let me know how easy it is.
