Always a joy to hear from the Professor. Much loved and respected here in the Midlands.

most of the time, i imagine these "top" journeyman could beat the prospect they're facing, but if they win too many times, they don't get work

100%. Funny thing is the average fan would laugh at his record and think they have a chance against them. These guys are skilled.

    Yeah.

There also is different meaning for a journeyman in U.K than in U.S , continental europe or russia.

In other countries journeymans are picked up mainly by matchmaking and not always are expected to loss.
In russia these are called different: gatekeeper, journeyman and bags. These boxers are different.
When you book journeyman, you should calculate and take risk that he might KO your boxer. This might happen.
If journeyman had KOed prospect with not bad fights record, his ranking will increase and if your promotion will not book him anymore, he might move to another promotion in another country.

There is difference how terms are used. U should tell that you wish to get a bag not a journeyman if you wish bag.
In U.K this is more different.
U.S or EE happens that journeymans KO prospects and still are getting fights somewhere.

That used to be the case in the UK but now that the Fighters have to sell the tickets themselves, a journeyman has very little opportunity to turn his career around like, for example, Jimmy Vincent did.
Years ago, guys like Willie Wright, Bingo Crooks, Dean Bramhald and especially Billy Waith, would often come to fight and beat the house favourite.

Yeah. Of course in all world are in demand fighters who sells tickets and with them is possible to sell tickets.
To damage ticket's seller's reputation, especially if it is small or medium level promotion/ events is not good for future $.
There of course are different variables, some small events needs more fights on card to fill time. Make show longer.

Sometimes journeymans from aboard are booked with mistake.
For example one EE journeyman with 1-4 record actually appeared just had been macthed up properly as away corner kid in EE and when he had been booked to fight in U.K, he KOed local prospect with undefeated record.
Next fight he had get was in Germany, where he get a draw vs local undefeated prospect.
Then, vuala, this EE country does have not bad ranking place for his fight record journeyman with 2-4-1 fights record, ofc he is not needed for casual record padding fights in west.
In EE? He at least does have not bad ranking/ price proportion and someone might book him to fight with his guy.
With risk that this guy might KO his prospect or get a draw. If guy really is enough good and will beat him, he will rise in rankings.
Sometimes in smaller shows 2 undefeated guys are matched up to get better tickets sales.
If fans see next bum on fights cards they might not been interested enough to buy tickets for good price. If 2 locally enough well known undefeated guys fights, tickets might be sold for higher price than usually and more tickets might be sold. One from them will lost his holy 0, therefore paychecks for such fights usually are better than for fights vs journeymans and walking boxing bags.
