    He could NOT see clearly.

The fight went about 3 rounds longer than most doctors would have allowed, but the doctor in this fight did not stop the fight until Vitali had lost his periferal vision.

Before calling the stoppage, he clearly asks Vitali to face forward to check if he was able to see to his side. The eyelid was physically hanging in the way, so the fight was stopped.

Look, Vitali would have known the fight was in danger of being stopped at any stage from the 3rd round on. So logically he would have been giving everything he had to win ASAP. This was still not enough.

BTW, that transcript proves nothing. What do you expect Vitali and a bunch of people on his payroll to say?

And, no, you cannot free a maximum security prisoner with a violent history like Ibeabuchi no matter how much money you have.

Great post. I remember asking soon after the fight if these people so vehemently opposed to the stoppage would have preferred a continuation of the bout and the increasing possibility of his eyelid falling off completely, not only losing him the bout but also the remainder of his career.

Let's face it, Lewis won the fight in a manner very clearly defined by the rules of boxing. If Klitschko is so very opposed to cut-based stoppages, he should have lobbied for them to be removed from the contest rules prior to the bout and refused to take the fight otherwise.

As it transpired, he just wanted an excuse for a legitimate TKO defeat.

Vitali's eyelid was not hanging as you say and he could obviously see well enough to rush over to fight Lewis after the stoppage. Furthermore, the fans clearly felt Vitali was winning

This Jose Sulaiman right-hand-man is the same Dr Paul Wallace involved in the recent Toney/Rahaman controversy

7 Prisoners Get Clemency From Pataki
The Governor noted that Ms. Brundidge had been an exemplary prisoner and had earned a bachelor's degree from Mercy College during her incarceration at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, a maximum security prison in Westchester County. ''The extraordinary powers of clemency allow me to exercise compassion and to recognize that Charline Brundidge's crime was an aberrant act in an otherwise law-abiding and productive life, an act that was a direct response to her history of domestic abuse,'' Mr. Pataki said. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9A03E5D61131F937A15751C1A960958260

Vitali's corner were patching his eye up-they were going to pull him out. A prime Vitali struggled and lost against an old and fat Lennox.

    Lennox TKO 6 Vitali

Stay retired Lennox, don't trust Don King. If he's offering 25 million, Lennox would probably see maybe 10 million of it. Is that worth it to come out of retirement?

His eye was packed with wadding and there was absolutely no way that the corner, however good, could have got the eye ready in the intervening period for Vit to come out for the next round in time. It seems to me that the cut man knew the fight was going to be stopped, whatever he said at the press conference.

In the photo the wadding is plain to see, and to be honest the cut on his eyelid is savage and would have resulted in a stoppage in any fight.

That could be Vaseline and this picture is "after" the fight but the following article claims that Sousa was stuffing vaseline "during" the fight. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2003/06/22/SP292602.DTL

By the way, those "four" cuts look like they were by more than just Lewis' glove
