[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pj1HDBDMpPY[/ame] watch the right hand that Johnson threw at 1:31
Eating crow this morning. Woke up and saw that I wrong on all counts about this fight. First, I thought Leapei had an iron chin and that Johnson, even though bigger, would be the lesser puncher in the fight. Wrong on both counts. Second, I figured Leapei's power would be such that Johnson would be on the backfoot for most of the fight. Wrong again. Alex power seems average at best against solid Blevel opposition. Last, I figured Johnson would resolve to fight strictly from the outside and try not to engage Leapei in a battle. Wrong again. I gather from this pisspoor video of the last round, writers accounts and previous performances that Leapei was seriously overrated at this level. Johnson has one other high level win and they way in which he beat Alex today can mean only that either Johnson is bigger stronger and harder than ever, or Leapei is a hype. Im leaning towards the latter.:think
does not surprise me you have overatted someone..at least your admitting it now tho..im surprised your not saying alex had a broken hand and tore rotator cuff with a ripped hip flexor and 2 pactoral rips aswell
Johnson has skills I just wish he would be more active and throw his right hand more. I am not willing to write the guy off yet. I would like to see him fight one of the other American contenders like Mitchell, Arreola, Wilder, Scott, Jennings, etc. Too bad the Vitali fight was such a stinker because I am not sure any American network will put him on TV again.
Leapei has had some devastating KOs in his time, but usually against chinny or overmatched opposition. Johnson's had some fine performances himself. Nice to see two contenders going at it. One of em sortof exposed as having overrated power, and the other showing he has underrated heart.:think
Huge fan of Jennings and Mitchell. KJ called out Mitchell and Mitchell called his bluff. Definitely wanna see this fight now that Johnson has proven to be more than talk. Hard to say whether Jennings is ready yet for a guy like Johnson. Jennings proved his mettle against Liakovich, essentially schooling the veteran titlist from bell to bell, but KJ is not a shopworn vet. And I don't think Jennings could get the nod in a close fight. I'd rather see him move along proper rather than getting rushed into huge fights. There is already talk off a bout with Adamek for Jennings. A little fast for my tastes. I'm almost glad that Chambers is seeking that fight instead. I'd like to see KJ continue working across the pond. Boystov or Fury would be nice fights. Would also like to see him vs two K2 fighters, Banks or Ustinov.:think
hopefully kingpin can get his fat ass back in the gym and get a fight scheduled again soon and dont dick around for another year
Johnson has always had the tools to be a top heavyweight. His problems are he doesn't fight enough(especially better fighters), can be lazy in the ring, runs his mouth without always backing it up, and his fight with Vitali left a really bad taste in people's mouths. This win over Leapai was a good win and it would be nice if he could parlay this into another notable fight. I'd like to see him face Solis since he's coming back from that injury, they were going to fight before so it could be possible. Outside of the Klistchkos I think Johnson has a real shot against any of the other heavyweights. But he's a high risk low reward guy and I don't think the networks are lining up to put him on so we'll see what he does next.
he stood there and traded with leapai. that surprised me. he wasnt being so defensive. looks like he matured a bit as a fighter
