Honestly I think Douglas looked better than Ali did in their respective fights. That could be due to the quality of the opposition at that time, but still.

His jab seemed sharper, he used the uppercut to far greater effect, he controlled the center of the ring whereas Ali gave ground often for no apparent reason and lay on the ropes way too much, and Buster threw the left hook with some authority whereas Ali once again relied pretty much only on the jab and right hand. Barely a left hook was thrown by Ali at all.

The comparison seems quite blasphemic to begin with, then becomes almost comical when you realise that Buster doesn't suffer in comparison at all. Not on that night in Tokyo at any rate.

So I think that version of Douglas makes Ali look rather **** to be honest. Ali's intangibles are far stronger but Buster's style would make him look poor.
