Kirby is orginally from Dallas. He boxed in the amateur ranks for many years there. He won the Dallas Golden gloves a few times and was runner up a few times as well. His trainer in his amateur days was ex- heavyweight Lynn Ball. I'm not sure why he waited until he was 35 years old to turn pro. He is a good boxer, but not great.
