According to Boxrec, Kirk Johnson is making him comeback after 4 years in June. Anyone interested or think he could do something in the division? For some reason he came in grossly out of shape against Klitschko. I think hes a better boxer than he showed that night. Not saying he'd have a chance even if he was in shape, just that he didnt do himself justice. He'll be 38 at his comeback.
'Bubba' had good movement for a guy his size, handspeed and respectable power(nasty what he did to Lou Savarese) He got robbed blind in his fight with Javier Mora when his knee blew out and was considered a "TKO"(wasn't Laurence "If it can be screwed up then I'm the man to do it" Cole reffing that fight?) You see where Mora is now(i.e. fresh off of getting practically raped by Alexander Povetkin's fists) Showed lots of potential but like Teddy Atlas said not so much work ethic to go along with it. I hope he comes back prepared to work and make some noise. He doesn't want the last image of him in the ring as a woefully fat mess getting smacked around by Vitali Klitschko
On a good day Kirk has potential.. Ruiz did his usual hard nosed brawling aginst Kirk and he wasn't at all prepaired for such a bad experience and it made him fight Ruiz kinda brawl losing on an obscure DQ..... He had all of the tools to become champ that night, but he played into Johnnys hands.. I was in the mandalay Bay arena late at night a day before the fight for a late behind closed door workout.. He hit pads in the ring and looked amazing.. The occasion freaked him a bit.. he was in decent shape too for that one..... his weight can be an issue...
If Johnson fights around 240-250, and he trains in the gym in-between fights, I think he can work his way back into bottom half of the top ten. Johnson still has power and speed.
I doubt he has much left. In my opinion if he was lazy whilst he had his chance he won't all of a sudden make a dramatic u-turn and suddenly make the most of his potential. Don't expect him to make much noise.
You and i clearly watched a different fight. Johnson looked like a dear caught in a cars headlight. He didnt have a clue that night and fought like a scared rabbit. Ruiz stayed on his chest hurt him multiple times and Johnson repeatedly fouled. There was nothing obscure about that DQ. Everytime Johnson stepped up to the plate he was found wanting. He fought Vitali instead of LL and turned up around 260lbs looking like a beached whale and did the same again. He didnt have a clue. Id prefer if Johnson stayed retired and looked after his health instead of flirting with boxing again. He simply doesnt have the minerals anymore.
His corner told him not to go to the body since he kept hitting low. What does he do in the 10th? Goes low. Ruiz almost KO'd him in the 9th as well. Ruiz tossed 204 TOTAL punches, and landed like 100. KJ had no defense and no answer to being hit by Ruiz.
In all honesty, Why? I mean I understand the need to make money & a living ect... But he ain't gonna do ****, Reminds of that line in Pulp Fiction. (I'm toooo lazy to find it, But It's something about "Boxer's don't have an old timer's day")
Good luck Kirk... you should have got off your fat ass 3 1/2 years ago! Doubt he'll do much now... but he should be able to get a few wins and eventually a decent pay-day vs a top ten guy.
The Ruiz DQ was bogus. The Quiet Man turned out to be the Whining *****. Still, I'm with Kulak, every two years there's word of a comeback that fails to materialize. Believe it when you see it.
