Kirkland/Angulo

Stayed up to watch this and watching it again now, brilliant stuff. Felt sorry for Angulo because he thought he'd hit the jackpot and ended up not only punching himself out, but he took a pounding from Kirkland and couldn't recover. Angulo showed plenty of heart to hang in there but Kirkland, after what happened with Ishida, and having been dropped so early here showed a great mentality to keep himself on top.

Hope they fight again

 

Angulo got ****ED.

Terrific fight. Can't believe Kirkland ****ed him up so badly and stopped him after getting knocked down himself. What heart that man has. He always picks himself up, what a fighter.

 

A rematch with Ishida should be Kirklands main priority IMO. Hope Ishida wins his next fight so Kirkland doesn't 'do a Prescott' with him, would be a good way to finally move on IMO.

Junior Middle is all over the shop at the mo'. Is Sergei back there? Lara and a shopworn P-Dub....and Canelo. I would say if Kirkland beats Ishida, then fights Molina for a fight at Canelo :hey

 

Yeah, it's the logical step for Kirkland (to fight Ishida). I always thought that Kirklands loss in that fight was simply down to his weight draining ****ing up his punch resistance, and him being caught cold with a hard, clean straight shot (**** people calling it a jab, I wouldn't like to be caught walking on to that shot from a guy punching down). Kirkland would have a much better chance of winning now that his weight seems to be sorted out, and his punch resistance looks a little better.

Carlos Molina really is the dark horse of that division, isn't he? He kind of reminds me of Alfonso Gomez (circa Contender Series 1), in the sense that physically he doesn't look that great, and he isn't exceptional in any area, but he is skilled, wily, and a solid fundamental fighter. Molina would have a good chance vs Alvarez, and him vs any top 154 pound fighter would be good.

 

Molina is on a decent run for sure, and just seems a hard worker.

Kirkland look grotesque physically against Ishida, and before that. Obviously his chin isn't the best, but he has heart and is pretty heavy handed. He can still do alright for himself, and one things for sure the man is never in a dull fight.

 

I'm happy for the man. I can't even fathom how embarrassing the Ishida loss must have been for him, and to bounce back with such an emphatic win and performance says a lot about his heart and drive. He'll never be 'top-table', Kirkland, but that doesn't mean he won't ever stop trying to be.

 

Loved rd one. Shame Anguelo took way too much punishment.

I would have scored rd 1 8-8, does someone have to get 10? Jim Watt give rd 1 10-9 to Kirkland.

 

That's kind of how the '10 point must' system works.

Fair play, but i cant take Kirkland seriously with the 'mandingo warrior' nickname. atsch

 

I'd have given that round to Angulo as a 10-9. Kirkland did good work in the last minute but Angulo was kicking the **** out of him until that point. So, two minutes of domination and a KD > one minute of comeback and an admittedly heavier KD.

I wouldn't argue hard the other way though.
