In terms of the perceived gulf between the two and how the two's careers are now viewed this win is absolutely unreal Benn vs G Man is a really bad comparison, that was two of the best in the division, with all due respect to Laing he was just seen as a work out. He went over there and performed brilliantly, Duran was far from done at that point.
More like Jackson’s Bulldog, I can’t believe this is news to you. Gerald McClellan shouldn’t of been cleared to fight
Should Benn have been counted out in the first round? A lot of referees would have stopped it preventing the tragic consequences that would unfold later.
There was no blood clot on the brain going into the fight or he wouldn’t of made it to the fight. Jackson punched him in the head two years prior.
Why?? You’re allowed 30 seconds to get back in under WBC rules. If he stopped it it would obviously of been the wrong decision because Benn went on to win.
Anyone will have an attritional thing from heavy sparring with heavy gloves and heavy guards at the Kronk for years and years. There will be damage. You’re being punched in the head. Benn landing 300 knockout blows did nothing at all though, man.
If McClellan was already blood-clotted and severely amazingly damaged going into his fights then he wouldn’t of blew Jackson away in 90 seconds or punch Benn through the ropes in 30 seconds. get real
i grew up watching boxing on BBC and loved watching Kirk .....fast forward 30 years i used to see him shuffling back and forth from a nuthouse to buy booze.....a really sorry sight
In the Benn vs McClellan fight, was there a moment in the fight that can be pinpointed when McClellan was in trouble, or was it just a culmination of blows that unfolded this tragedy?
Nobody knows because there was no hidden camera inside his brain. I do think a swinging left hook off the ropes that didn’t land properly in the first round is potentially one that started the bleeding. It kind of landed sideways in the spot the bleed began, it was thrown awkwardly at speed from Benn. Benn himself says he hit him harder than he hit Dan Sherry at the end of one of the rounds, about the 5th or 6th and how McClellan wouldn’t of seen the shot to brace the impact -a short right or something.
