I go to the same gym that his brother (tony) trains people at. Alot of people in my gym talk about him as a great but im too young to have seen him and haven't been into boxing long. Can't find any vids of him so I thought I'd try and get some expert opinions:p

He was brilliant. Smoked too much marijuana for a fighter though. Often his manager and trainers didn't know where he was the day of a fight, he'd be smoking a spliff somewhere. Went AWOL for weeks and months at a time.

Very erratic performer. At his best he could be brilliant, scintillating. If you wanna see an arrogant, hands-down, matador style, relying on pure reflexes, judgement of distance and accuracy, beating his man to the punch, and making it look easy, Kirkland Laing was the man. If he had fought near his best every time I thonk he would be remembered now as a great.
But on his average day he was ordinary.

I saw him box the ears off Colin Jones twice ,only to lose concentration and get kod both times.

If Laing had been dedicated, a one-sided beating at the hands of Don curry would have awaited him.

You'd have to argue pretty hard, but Duran was still good

I loved his foot stamp and the "what the ****" expression on his opponents face. Priceless

Actually he was more talented than Augustus but his flaws were there for all to see. One of the biggest wastes of talent I've ever seen.

Well, in the USA, not many people saw Laing. I've only seen him twice, and I though he was a clubfighter at best. He was just a good opponent in my book.
