This decision should be overturned. Dont know how I missed that before, but the ref immediately started counting and Kirkland just stood in HIS corner. Big mistake by the ref.

THAT is probably why his cornerman got in the ring. He saw Kirkland in his respective corner and probably assumed the round was over. Kirland should have never been there while the ref was counting. The ref should have suspended his count and sent Kirkland to the neutral corner and then continued

    VIII. PROCEDURE FOLLOWING A KNOCKDOWN
Immediately following a knockdown is when the adrenalin factor really kicks in, this is the time that you have to remain calm and take care of business. You will have the best idea as to whether the participant is injured or not when he heads toward the canvass. Make a quick analysis of the fallen participant, if he is knocked out, waive the bout off, ending the contest. Summon the Ringside Physician, remove the mouthpiece if possible and keep everyone away from the fallen contestant until the doctor is in the ring and takes charge.
Under normal circumstances the following guidelines should be applied when practical:
    · Direct the contestant scoring the knockdown to the farthest neutral corner
    · Once the contestant has reached the neutral corner, locate and pick up the count from the timekeeper/knockdown judge

    · Position yourself during the count so that you can watch the contestant who is down, as well as the actions and movement of the one scoring the knockdown. If the contestant who scored the knockdown leaves the neutral corner for any reason during the count, stop the count and direct the contestant back into the corner. Once the contestant has returned to the neutral corner, then you should resume the count at the point where you stopped.

none of those things ever happened "are YOU ****ing kidding me" ref

They could get this overturned based on this technicality and the fact that the referee kept counting Molina after his corner stepped in the ring instead of announcing the DQ immediately.

Yep. It was the ref who ****ed up before the cornerman even got on the ring. The referee wanted to go by the rulebook to get molina dqd but completely ignored the rules when it suited his cause.

Not sending a fighter to the neutral corner when a knockdown occurs just before the round ends isn't cause for a NC. Some of you are delusional.

If he wasn't sent to the neutral corner then that only adds to the confusion since the count shouldn't be happening. Sadly it all just adds up to really poor officiating.

I would think since the count started after the end of the round, there really is no need for him to go to a neutral corner, because the fight will not resume if he beats the count, he will simply have to go to his corner.

Yes the fight was horribly officiated and the ref was obviously in the pocket of the promoter, but these "solutions" in this thread are just as bad as following the rule to the letter, despite having the authority to use your personal discretion.

No, that is totally incorrect. Even if the count exceeds the 3 minutes of the round, the round it still on till the count is over. he should have been sent to the neutral corner, period.

It's the Texas State Athletic Commission. They are the worst commission out there.

Show me the rule where not going to the neutral corner results in a NC. I can show you a rule where the corner entering the ring MAY result in a DQ called, but you want to make **** up.

Just watched it again. Since Kirkland was allowed to go to his corner Molina's corner man may actually not have known the count was in progress. All he knew was that the ref walked Molina back to his own corner. Now it makes sense as to why he thought he could enter the ring. Did they ever say if he acknowledged that he knew there was a count? Looks like he didn't and the ref not sending Kirkland to a neutral corner could be part of the confusion.

The rule for the neutral corner is to keep the fighter who wasn't knocked down from getting extra help from his own corner during this time. Kirkland should have been sent to a neutral corner. The ref was flat out wrong for not doing so. Crap, watching it one more time the ref doesn't give the down sign, he just starts counting! How can one man **** up so much in such a short period of time. This his first fight? :huh
