Newest Nightwish has really grown on me. Floor Jansen is a powerhouse and a breath of fresh air after 2 straight albums with the mediocre Anette.

 

Turns out she's a pretty cool girl too. That stage makeup though :blood

 

Poisonblack if you can get past the cheese factor is great. Ville proved that however small his songwriting contributions may have been in Sentenced he definitely brought some value in that department and isn't just a hired gun set of vocal chords. I'd rate PB well ahead of their peers in the frozen north salacious gothic metal scene (H.I.M., Charon, Entwine, To/Die/For, 69 Eyes, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, etc) maybe not in pure musicianship in every case but definitely listenability as they have just enough more edge than most of them not to make you feel like a 13-year-old girl with 'cutter' lines on her wrist for being into them.

It doesn't touch any of the original stuff from Sentenced, obviously (none of the surviving members' side projects have, or will) but some of the licks Ville writes are damn close to Miika's style even if he'll never be half the guitarist. But that guy was a damn virtuoso, not really a fair comparison for anyone. Let alone someone who's primarily a frontman and started moonlighting on the axe halfway into his career.
