Matthysse vs Peterson was one of the fights I was looking forward to the most all damn year, and since it was in the middle of the month and not the end, I figured Id be able to catch it since all my drills are more towards the end of the months. Well, wouldn't you know it, they have my drill this weekend this month. atsch Only 15 months left in my contract though..... so the silver lining is after this month I can cross off another month
You know, Matthysse seems to be going into this fight as a big favorite to run over Peterson, but the truth is, as a Lucas Matthysse fan I see him getting the L here. I truly hope Im wrong big time, but I just see this as a bad matchup for him, and out of all the guys he could have been matched up with (Garcia, Zab, Khan, ect) at 140.... and I think he would have beaten all of them (which was half the reason I wanted to see him vs Garcia instead of this) but Peterson is the only guy who I see beating him. Like I said, I hope Im wrong.... maybe Ill write down why I think this at a later time, but as for my official pick on the fight its gonna be Peterson by UD.
Kirk, I 100% agree with you. There is a lot of value on Peterson being an almost 4/1 underdog. I favor Peterson in the fight, and I think these are the two best fighters at 140. And I don't think it's all that close, really. With Bradley at 147, Peterson and Matthysse are definitely 1 and 2, and this fight will be an elimination as who "the man is" now at 140. Garcia is a decent fighter, but he definitely isn't the best. Peterson and Matthysse smoke him. Peterson would beat Judah (and Matthysse would easily beat Judah in a rematch, easy.) And that's about it. Peterson already beat Khan....Matthysse would probably, literally, kill Khan if they fought. There's no one else. But, yeah, this is for the 140 title, Peterson or Matthysse? It'll be fun, but I'm favoring Peterson as well.
This is the type of fight where I wish I was in Vegas so I could lay down some cash.... but oh well. Someday. Like I said.... 15 more months of military and then I think I will transfer my fedex job down to vegas and try my hand and some gambling on boxing. we will see :think anyways, how you put it is pretty much how I see it. I expect Peterson to emerge from this tournament as the man at 140. I was hoping it would be Matthysse when the WBC announced that Garcia had to fight him next but then GBP put this tournament together and Garcia got Judah, and Matthysse got Peterson, now I just don't see it in the cards for Lucas. Oh well.... should Lucas and Garcia both lose to Peterson (likely, imo) maybe they can face off then. But given that he should have beaten Alexander (imo) would have been nice to see Lucas reach his dream of becoming the man at 140 by beating Garcia in the fight that was suppose to be. Quite a few options for Lucas after the tourney though. * Rematch Zab (GBP has rights to zabs next two fights, this is an obvious fight to make (Malignaggi being another one for Zab, that fight would do well in Brooklyn and ill never understand why it hasn't happened. Maybe after Paulie loses to Broner) * Danny Garcia : The cynical fan in me says this fight wont happen, for Garcia's sake, as he will be coming off a lose to Peterson and I could see GBP trying to get him some momentum again, not throw him from Peterson to Matthysse. But you never know. * Ruslan Provodnikov : This fight would be a badass match between two hardmen. The chances of this fight are slim to none, but just mentioned it because as a fan it would be fun as hell :!:
Seems that David hadn't picked them up yet so I thought I better bump them. PICKS: 5/18 - Shawn Porter vs. Phil Lo Greco - 10x3 (Showtime) Porter TKO6 5/18 - Lamont Peterson vs. Lucas Martin Matthysse - 12x3 (Showtime) Matthysse TKO10 - WAR Lucas! 5/18 - Devon Alexander vs. Lee Purdy - 12x3 IBF Welterweight Title (Showtime) Alexander UD - He might stop "purr purr kitty" Purdy. 5/18 - Shane Mosley vs. Pablo Cesar Cano - 12x3 (FOX/FOX Espanol/Televisa) Cano UD - I have no confidence in the old man.
