It doesn't all necessarily apply to Kirk's list as they usually do have some deviation, but you may find some of this interesting anyway...

Lots of potential (outside chances if not long shots, but possible) upsets here, if someone were angling for a Lone Wolf/Ranger - again I can't recall the difference offhand. :!:

IE:

Diaz is only slightly above Vicente's level, IMO. He could easily have run up the same result against Chris Avalos (that is, been dropped and lost on points succumbing to his aggression) - and likewise Vicente could've had a bloody war of attrition with Teon Kennedy.

Maraon vs. Payano - someone's 0 has got to go. Neither knows how to lose. According to what's-his-face (Brian Kenny's replacement) who hyped this one up on last week's FNF, Maraon is a big puncher. I don't really know much about him other than his record looking impressive at first glance belying the fact that it's quite insularly padded. :conf I've leaned Payano's way only because of some passing familiarity with his name coming up with mild buzz around it, and because he is a member of the Rivalta/Caicedo camp and therefore well-schooled and with top-class sparring available to him...guys like Claudio Marrero, etc. Besides, even though Maraon is the Filipino - it's Payano who's been favorably compared by observers to a young Manny Pacquiao. :think

Those are the closest to 50-50 IMO, so it wouldn't even be appropriate to deem either an upset no matter what.

As for the rest...

I consider Jennings well beyond Fedosov in terms of heavyweight prospects, but that is the division where a single punch can unmake everything - and Jennings isn't anywhere near a flawless polish yet, and Fedosov despite his limitations can whack some...

Kovalev ought to be able to destroy White, considering Don George did. Still, this is his 2nd biggest step up to date - and may in fact be his greatest h2h challenge if you're of a mind that Gabriel Campillo was too shopworn to count as "his old self" when Kovalev dismantled him. White has been improving steadily and is a legitimate top 15 player in the division. He does have some clever tricks, and Kovalev hasn't been exposed to much of the American style or tested much, period, up to now.

Charr looked atrocious versus Saglam, and is once more on an insignificant showcase card with no major television outlet coverage (but streamed by the WBC, and really arranged by them on a silver platter for him to simply remain active with his ranking intact) and could therefore regress in his complacency and come in poor shape. Orlov is the sort of lumbering feckless giant we all like to make fun of when they sprout up in boxing as sideshow attractions - like Ustinov, a poor man's Valuev or maybe not even deserving that high an honorific. Still, he is very experienced against fair to very good heavyweights. He took many big punchers the distance even though he is a huge punching bag. He won't be respectful of Charr's offensive firepower, especially if Charr is fat and sluggish. He is a lot bigger, and if not p4p stronger definitely boasts more outright brawn and is unlikely to back down from Charr.

Szpilka proved against Mollo that he is always going to be vulnerable against someone with a pulse and the motivation to bring the fight to him and not wait to be smashed themselves. Minto is actually very similar in that regard to Mollo in that he is a scrappy dude who doesn't come to cooperatively roll over - but he is a former cruiserweight...smaller, older and weaker than Mollo. I fully expect that Szpilka will have drilled himself on the importance of carefulness and will plan to be more intelligent about his approach in the scheduled rematch with Mollo, should he get that far. There is the possibility, however, that he ironically makes the same mistake again by looking past Minto toward the Mollo rematch and pays the price for again taking a game opponent too lightly.

Quezada has loads more boxing skill than Aguilera...however, this isn't likely to be a pretty boxing match. Aguilera will force a brawl, and Quezada is probably too wizened and slow to avoid one. Aguilera himself does have a very shaky chin, maybe even more so than Quezada - but he will be the one looking to impose himself and score a big dose of chloroform. Quezada is sometime painfully tentative. He engaged in the worst FNF main event of all time, IMO (against Chris Arreola) - mostly his fault, due to his spoiling. Unless he can hold all the way through, Quezada will most likely feel Aguilera's power - and it won't take much to shatter his fragile confidence or get him off his feet, given how often he winds up on the deck. He is also coming off a two year layoff following three losses - the last by knockout to a guy only slightly less crude than Aguilera. Having said all that, however - Aguilera really does suck and has very poor resistance himself...probably as poor as Travis Walker, the last KO victim of Manny Quezada. KO1, in fact.

Crawford has the look of something special, but Sanabria is no pushover. He doesn't have a big signature victory but has plenty of C and B- type notches in his bedpost - the best among them being Rocky Juarez. His one loss was three years ago to Robinson Castellanos, and looks far less ignominious now than it did then. Castellanos sported a 7-8 losing record when they met, but is on a 13-1 run since 2009 and is currently the WBC silver featherweight champion having just beaten none other than Celestino Caballero. I've also been nervous about Crawford for some time, as during his earlier career he was extremely lazy on defense and would allow journeymen free reign to punch him in the face, laughing it off before he vanquished them. To his credit, he was much smarter in his previous step up against Breidis Prescott - but it's still a worrisome habit for him to have once had. He needs to recognize that Sanabria calls for the same mindfulness that Prescott did and not think he is back in with another stiff he can regard cavalierly.

Garcia is the complete package - and Lopez is anything but. We already have an inkling of what Garcia's chin and heart are like, and so there are very few people backing Lopez to kick in his front door with raw force. JuanMa can box a bit, although he was never as technically proficient as we know Garcia to be. There would seem to be very little chance for him in this - but he probably feels his back is against the wall and this is his last prayer of getting back to big time. He would probably be correct in that. Garcia if up for it should have this pretty much wrapped up before it starts - but they don't fight the fights on paper, and you'd be a fool to ever call Lopez anything but dangerous.
