I have to leave right now, somebody feel free to finish the rest lol. And I'm wondering if des has his August 1 picks laying around, I couldn't find it.
It's debatable. I don't think anyone can really say without a shadow of a doubt that Larry's reign was better than Wladimir's. I didn't live through that era so maybe I'm missing something, but I think the statement that particular poster made is just either hating on Wladimir or he has the nostalgia glasses on. When doing research and when you look at Ring Magazine's from that time everybody ragged on Holmes. Which, back then, was sort of like what boxing forums are now. If Holmes fought the same fighters he did back then, people on here would rag on him. We would get the people that would degrade Holmes for going life and death with an old past-his-prime Ken Norton. We would get the people that would say a prime Norton would have made Holmes **** his pants at the weigh in...things of that nature. Holmes' fight with Gerry Cooney would have been a laughing stock. Basically it all comes down to everything looks better when looking back. So, basically, in my opinion, I think both eras are comparable and you can have a discussion of which fighter actually did fight in a tougher era. But it isn't something that is hands down, 100% in favor of Holmes.
Rustam Nugaev Close UD Hernandez is good, he has killer shots to the body and a great jab that will land and will land good in this fight, also a good hook. But in this fight Nugaev has a head start when it comes to scorecards +2 rounds, also he will be the one to push forward, controlling the center of the ring. There is also the fact that even tho Hernandez will look better, he does get hurt early in fights, tho only Bogere managed to finish the job, and probably Nugaev doesn't have the quality of a great finisher, but he can ko you in one punch, don't need to follow and finish on that. He caused the death of Martin Sanchez in the ring so his power must be good. Hernandez lost decisions, but SD and MD Mike Perez and Luis Ramos Jr and draw with Mickey Bey which it means he's good to make it close against guys that have a style pleasant to the eye. The thing is that I'm afraid that against a guy like Nugaev, who looks slow, telegraphing punches, and will probably eat quite a few good jabs and left hooks Hernandez can take the decision, and do it wide enough that the small hometown/good promotional advantage wont matter. I took a chance with my other pick, risking to lose a 10-8. Cant take another one.
K gang tonight I will be able to do the updates. Big thanks to Pinoy for getting em started for me :good :good :deal
