I miss WBK... Kirk can u find a way to use the official rankings to name a mandatory ? And not be forced to do other rankings, hence the immense work that came with it ? Maybe I'll think of something later...

I won't pretend to have called this one, as obviously I picked XZZ by UD, but: The size of Novoa did matter, quite a bit...along with his superior work rate, aggressive disposition, and heavier mitts - which all were probably contributing factors in having bettered Zhong's form in their contrasting affrays with Resendiz. This had a distinct Segura vs. Calderón/Margarito vs. Cotto I feel to it. (except that Zhong can't box half as well as either PR man...)
Besides the "bigger people are better" sentiment here (I've always said so :yep), I also have the strong opinion that the mini-me division isn't all that. I mean about 1 out of 25 mini-me's will win a "world title" at some point of their careers, wich really keeps you thinking.
The problem with straw is the same as with cruiser - too much lure of glamor and riches a division north. The flyweight range, light through super, represent an equally proportionate leap in lucrative opportunities as there is from at/under 199.99lbs to at/over 200.01lbs. Guys who are naturally small enough to compete at 105 past the 'young growing lad' stage (and those kids will end up in the fly range, if not the bantam range, or feather or even higher) are rare across the global population, so it will never be deep. That said, there is always emergent talent but if reaching one's natural prime weight doesn't send them north, the lack of $$ will...and unfortunately some guys who truly are too small for fly, bantam, etc are forced to bulk up and take on bigger men just to get paid adequately. Chocolatito, Ioka, Yaegashi, Calderón - all the best straws move up eventually. Many, I suspect, could easily keep making the weight if there were any money in it. As a byproduct, you do get some mediocre titlists (like Zhong, and Novoa) scrapping for the leftovers when the p4p studs - or even just solid world class talents on par with those in other divisions - bail to climb both the metric and financial ladders.
