Umm, okay. Simmer down their tons of fun lol.

Scoring the Ray Mancini vs Deuk-Koo Kim fight right now, this is the fight that afterwards the WBC mandated that all their championship fights from that day forward would go from the 15 round limit to 12 rounds. Kim died 4 days after the fight from punishment sustained in this fight.

One of the truly sad aspects to this tragedy is Kim wasn't a fighter trying to provide for his family to give them a better life like many fighters throughout history. He was a story like Macro Antonio Barrera, came from a well-off family in South Korea, and only took up boxing for the sport of it, and it ended up costing him his life at 23 years old.

    Moparfan's Trivia:

    Question #1. Two Parts DIFFICULT
I was 21 years old, undefeated and eager to take over the boxing landscape. In my 24th pro fight I suffered my first and only defeat, in the boxing ring. My fight was instrumental in altering certain equipment boxers use in the ring. I fought in a Ring Magazine Fight of the Year.

What equipment did my loss help orchestrate...???

    Question #2. EASY
I was a pro boxer for just over 2 hours, 28 minutes, 32 seconds combined time. I lost my professional debut, by knockout, in the first round, in the first minute. I fought only 11 times, but I have been a major person in boxing history. 51 years after my professional debut I was enshrined in the Boxing Hall of Fame.

My goodness I didn't realize that after Kim passed, Kim's mother & Richard Green the ref for the fight both committed suicide.

Yes sir. Green was suffering from depression way before the fight, and some say the death of Kim wasn't related to his suicide.

Did you know that Mancini asked his corner to stop the fight after the 13th round, claiming he was exhausted. His trainer told him to give it one more round, see if he could find his second wind...!!!

Never rewatched that fight, it's just so sad. The aftermath of it and all.

It was a damn good fight, but the result of it all just spoils it for me.

Is the first one Quiroga vs Akeem? Last time 6oz. gloves were used.

Also, I remember Arum saying that the Kim vs Mancini fight was the cause of boxing's decline from mainstream attention. After that fight majority of the sponsors dropped out, or something along those lines.

I just watched his Boom Boom's interview with Steve Kim after Mancini was chosen for the IBHOF, and he said in the interview it was the only fight that his body wanted him to quit in. He said his hand, body, and head hurt so bad that by the 9th round his body was done, but his mind wouldn't let him quit.

I wonder how much truth there is to this. Did Paret/Griffith have as dire an effect on the game?

Scoring Tommy Hearns vs Wilfred Benitez now, and Tommy made me pee my pants a little with that staredown Bentinez initiated as soon as he entered the ring lol.
