I was waiting for @kirk to answer first, and I will start with a portion of what he said:

As for my comments... the league has a long history of the current scoring system and stamina and consistency has always played a major role in capturing the crown.

When I set up the Monthly Awards, I was trying to address the concern you mentioned regarding "late starters or missing picks" without affecting the established scoring system. Sure, the Monthly Gold Medal winner does not carry as much prestige as the Annual Champion, but it shouldn't and at least it is something that a newcomer can come in and win.

Just for kicks, I used your proposed scoring system and compiled the scores for the players who have ranked in the top ten for the first five months of the year so far. Below, is the export of that data:

It looks like, based on that data, that it does not take into account months where someone performed poorly. I would guess, that if we assigned points to all participants each month with the worst performer getting 1 point and the best performer getting a number of points equal to the participants for that month, that the results would mirror the current rankings...just a guess.

 

If Zab Judah is able to pull this off tonight, @Jake LaMotta will unseat @DONT B SCARED and his 3-month reign at 1st place AND @f1ght3rz will end @Chuck Norris 9-defense People's Championship run!
