I suppose I can understand the viewpoint of seeing Lewis as a sellout.... but my perspective is that could be being a bit too harsh and rigid a mindset for what is often a more layered issue.

Labeling someone a sell out, when we dont really know their story, the reasons they had for doing what they did, the contexts they did them in, ect, ect... I dont know, seems a bit harsh and too assuming for me, but again, I can understand where its coming from. From the little I know, Lewis grew up country'ish, and has country roots... and of course like many people went a bit crazy in his teens and got into an entirely different scene than his 'roots'.... (with whatever genre and scene Staind falls into) (I believe he was homeless when they formed Staind, I could be wrong though)

But really, Lewis wouldnt be the first or last kid that grew up a certain way, went off in a self destructive tangent in his late teens and early twenties, and then went back to his roots as an adult. I wouldnt classify that a sellout as much I would just, life... and growing up. Again though thats just my .02 and my reasons for not really seeing him as a sellout. People change... they mature.... ect.

Possibly, I've heard Aaron be interviewed on Stern countless times, and his head and heart never really seemed to lie in Hard Rock or Metal, so who knows, maybe country is his true passion and his career in metal was his opportunistic phase. As far as the sellout label, metal guys tend to throw that around with relative ease, like myself. We're too strict for our own good sometimes.

I think he was making staind music before the possibility of ever getting signed was even a realistic scenario. I think he was just a homeless kid that was into the grunge scene at the time.

    ------------------------

    Was country music always around?

As a kid, I spent a lot of time with my grandfather. If there wasn't country music coming from somewhere, something was wrong. If we were driving to go hunting or fishing or to check his traps,, it would be on in the car. At his house, it would be on the little radio in the kitchen. If we were outside working in the yard, it'd be playing there. It was basically the soundtrack of my childhood.

So how did you get exposed to the harder music Staind started out playing?
My grandfather passed away, we moved, the friends that I was hanging out with did not listen to country music. It was Zeppelin and the Doors and the Beatles. It was stuff that I heard in my house growing up, like Crosby, Stills and Nash, Jim Croce and Cat Stevens. And then, during the '80s, the first Motley Crue record creeped in there a little bit, the first Skid Row record, Megadeth, Metallica, you know, that type of stuff is what I listened to as a teenager. Country music kind of left my life for a while.

    -----------------------------------------

    Anyways....

Man, I forgot you were a heavy metal fan.... all my choices are fairly soft'ish... Even if I did list rock, it would be guys heavy metalists probably would laugh or cringe at, I dont know lol. (Mudvayne, Godsmack, Slipknot, ect)

When it comes to true heavy metal I just have never been able to find anything I like. Its probably the one and only genre I havent really been able to make any headway into in terms of adding content to my library.

    True...

Ever listen to Sludge Metal or Southern Metal(less doomy just more of Southern Rock/country flare?) You might like those more.

Check out Crowbar, Down, Corrosion of conformity, Acid Bath even some Black Label Society is decent in that regard.

CST has a thread in the Lounge that you can peep at if anything.
