Im a bit like you I dont usually like get into political debates especially on here but sometimes cant help myself. I dont know alot about the issue with pyschedelic drugs specifically over there but do know there is a worldwide problem with doctors handing out drugs to easily and with the pharmaceutical industry in general. I have seen 1st hand the negative effects of doctors handing out drugs wily nilly due to kickbacks and try to stick natural remedies as much as possible. Its no coincedence to me that so many of politicians biggest donors seem to be the NRA and pharmaceutical companys.

Kirk's response about psychiatric drugs, sums up quite well what mine was going to be.

I'm far from a gun nut, in fact I don't own one, and have no desire to, I'm perfectly fine, because either I have huge balls, which I do, or I'm insane. I'm for more regulations on automatic weapons, and I'm definitely for more stringent requirements for the mentally ill to obtain one, and personally I'd love to see more of a focus on that still quite taboo subject in the country in general. But banning guns isn't the answer, because most of the people who commit the crimes, are criminals, and the ones who haven't committed the crime yet, but intend to, clearly have no qualms about breaking the law in the future, and if they couldn't get them legally, they'd get them in the oh so thriving black market, much of which is run by cartels either inside the border or just over the border in Mexico. If they can't get them legally, the bad guys will get the illegally, where does that leave the rest of us?

Let me put it into perspective as to why self defense is so important to many Americans.

I live in Florida, these are the crime stats for an average year in Florida. Population: 20,610,000 People
    1,111 Murders
    7,598 Rapes
    20,175 Robberies
    39,816 Assaults
    100,325 Burglaries
    410,352 Thefts
    43,135 Motor Vehicle Thefts
    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/31/most-dangerous-cities-florida_n_4524866.html

The latest Murder Rate I can find for Australia is 238 for the entire country of 24,000,000.

That means on average Florida Alone has 4 Million less people than Australia, yet 5 times the number of murders.

So you kind of see why people are a little apprehensive about handing over their guns right?

Who ever said you cant defend yourself or that it was archaic to defend yourself? My response is as relevant to what was said as what yours was.

The failure is the adults putting innocent childrens lives at risk due to inadaquette laws and with how easy it is to get a gun and with a faulty belief that you need a gun to defend yourself.

At the end of the day whats undeniable is that we dont need to worry about things like this happening when our kids school and that there is almost no chance anybody else in my family will be a victim of any massacres either. There is also far less chance of any children getting there hands on the weapons that are getting around over there.

Statistically there is a very low chance any given American will be the victim of a mass shooting, you do realize that right? Completely idiotic point you've made just now. There's still a chance you could be bludgeoned to death by a random lunatic with a hammer, stabbed etc. Are you going to live in fear over that as well? Ban all inanimate objects by that logic.

Guns are inanimate objects. It's the person behind them that matters - What matters more here are the fact that we pump our youth with mind alterling SSRI and the mental health epidemic in general. Banning guns won't fix that. As CST pointed out in an earlier post, these wackjobs would simply think of more creative ways to carry these kind of terrible acts out.

Jihadists have been successful in using vehicles to massacre dozens, even over a hundred people. Ban vehicles?

Not really a valid argument. A guns only use is to kill and there is no logical reason for a civilian to have one. We have very tight gun laws in the UK and rightly so.

Not a valid argument because you say so? Oh ok. Maniacs and extremists killing is the issue and if there's a will there's a way.

That's the 3rd time it's been brought up in this thread and quite honestly I could give a rats ass about what people who live in nanny states think of US laws.

It's not a valid argument because cars aren't designed for killing, neither are kitchens knives etc. Guns are designed to kill and that's it... They have no other use and they shouldn't be readily available to civilians.

I couldn't care less what moronic Americans think about it being their right to have them... Fact is its unnecessary and just adds extra fuel to the fire for no reason other than to appease idiots.

How is it not a valid argument when we're talking about mass killings? That's a philosophical/moralistic point you're trying to make, and I could easily counter it by mentioning the fact that almost all technology has been driven by warfare. But that's completely off topic.

"Moronic." Yet you're the one who's unable to counter solid arguments and has to resort to claiming them as invalid because you disagree with them.

Stricter guns laws would lead to less mass killings by the average civilian. Its apparent in every country that has adopted stricter laws.

Technology being driven by warfare... Has nothing to do with civilians having access to guns.

What solid arguments have you provided?

You poorly attempted to counter my point of maniacs and extremists resorting to other methods other than firearms. This discussion is about a mass shooting and you and a couple of others here foolishly believe that more gun regulation(or outright banning them for that matter) will correct the core problem here. It won't. Mass shootings have only become an epidemic in the last couple of decades. It's not the guns themselves that had led to this increase. Let's ignore the fact that we dope up our youth for minor behavioral problems that subside with age, have a toxic culture and so on. Guns aren't the problem here.

LOL. It's been proven in other countries that stricter guns laws prevent mass shootings... Australia had 4 mass shootings in a decade and brought in stricter laws... Haven't had a mass shooting in 2 decades or something.

You may as well let people have access to all military weaponry if that's your attitude after all why stop the average civilian from having them when it's only maniacs and extremists that are the problem.

Guns are very well a problem, there is no need for a civilians to have them or do you have evidence for why they do?

Chicago and New York have the strictest guns laws in the country, and by a literal landslide Chicago has the most murders, New York is doing a little better, but still has as many murders as Australia, usually more. Where's your rebuttal?

Not to mention the fact that Australia has less than 10% of the US population. But there other variables that go into why the US has such a problem with gun violence and violent behavior in general that our friend is conveniently ignoring. If one were to wave a magic wand and vaporize all guns in our country the problems that leads to mass shootings wouldn't disappear. But that's ok... Because guns are banned!

That it doesn't take long to Google that untruth you spouted.... https://www.npr.org/2017/10/05/555580598/fact-check-is-chicago-proof-that-gun-laws-don-t-work

Fact is civilians don't have any reason to have guns and there is no logical argument to say otherwise.
