Tackling the problems that lead to mass shootings is a whole other issue to deal with... But you have yet to state any logical reason why a civilian should have access to guns...

 

Nearly outta charge but quickly why are other types of murder and crimes being bought up when the issue is the massacres going on in america due to guns and the overall gun laws that allow it to happen and when comparing it to Australia and with success since the new laws,making out its because of a smaller population when using per capita comparison its not even close.

 

It was more aimed at the fact you called it strict on guns... Yet they allow civilians to carry them concealed . Its ridiculous.

Why do civilians need guns? As I have asked many times....

Purpose of a vehicle is transport, purpose of a gun is...to shoot someone. So, you're right.

I personally quite enjoy our lack of school shootings in the UK. I mean, that MAY or MAY NOT be down to gun laws but I have a sneaky suspicion that it helps ever so slightly.

there needs to be strictor regulations for guns... if you have a violent crime like assault,uttering threats, sexual assault on your record. then no guns should be legally bought... same goes with if getting treated for mental health no guns allowed unless the doctor/professionals sign off on it.. a 19 year old who was treated for mental problems should not be able to get his hands on a assault type gun...

Self-defense can and should focus upon more than gun possession and usage, though.

Moreover, most gun violence these days can hardly be considered to be justified under the realm of self-defense. I understand the principle behind the Second Amendment, but I don't think the majority of the 30 mass shootings that have taken place this year in the U.S. would fall under the jurisdiction of a "well-regulated militia"- even within its more recent definition of properly of proper discipline and training.

Any legal or government document can and should be subject to re-examination and re-definition. I think it's time to take yet another look at what restrictions could be applied to that particular amendment.

 

My point is, having the ability to buy assault weapons gives them far more outs to do irreparable damage in a very short amount of time. I live in Canada so I can't say I know all too much about what it's like to be in the States but you won't find many instances of school shootings here with our strict guns laws, you won't see it for Japan or the UK etc either and that's because it's so strict in those countries. I may have completely overreacted when I suggested a blanket ban on these weapons but there's got to be something done. How many more school shootings do we need?

 

To be fair, this thread has often gone off-topic. It's one of the rare threads were things stay civil and proper, sort of.
