    This is based my on personal taste, not trying to make some definitive, declarative statement, some of these may be unpopular, but sadly most people have no idea who the majority of these guys are, and they're all far more deserving, than the majority of modern directors, whose bodies of work are far too thin to be comparable to most of the all time greats, and I would like some of the other movie buffs on here to give me their opinions, and at least short lists of theirs. @Russell @UnleashtheFURY @PinoyProdigy And whoever else.:thumbsup:

    Also my top 40 is razor tight, I could barely separate many of them. I almost wish I could have a 30 way tie.:lol: But its pretty close to how I see them, hair by hair by hair.

    That is a long list @CST80 . I've seen some of Kubrick's movies and I am not a big fan. I feel like he is a little overrated. A lot of people say that his movies are genius and brilliant but I feel like they didn't touch me. The reason is just because somehow they can't survive through the time. Watching "A Clockwork Orange" nowadays looks kinda ******ed. To prove my point I can compare Kubrick's art with Chaplin movies. Even after 50 years you can feel the art of Chaplin from the inside. Especially in "City Lights".

    It's just my opinion. About Hitchcock he is awesome and I absolutely agree that he should be named number 1.

    ****!:eusa_doh: I knew I'd forget somebody, I'll edit Chaplin in, that being said, as far as his genuine masterpieces, he didn't have a ton, and I reflexively think of him as an actor. But he was brilliant nonetheless.

    How many of Kubrick's films have you seen? I've seen everyone of them, he's an acquired taste for sure, as far s A Clockwork Orange goes, it was a childhood favorite (inappropriate as hell, I know:lol:) I saw it countless times as a kid, same goes for Full Metal Jacket and especially The Shining, I'm one of those people who thinks Eyes Wide Shut is a masterpiece.

    I've seen the most famous ones and Full Metal Jacket and The Shining are cool, the other ones are not bad but not genius for sure. Also I didn't see Christopher Nolan and Alejandro Inarritu in your list ? :D

    BOth overrated hacks, when you best films is Birdman, you belong on no one's Top Directors list.:deal: I found the Revenant mindnumbing, same goes for Babel. Aside from Dark Knight Rises, Batman Begins and Interstellar, which I like a little, I hate everything Nolan does, he's a pretentious c***,, who thinks he's far more intelligent than he actually is. Which is why most of his films ultimately fail, because he doesn't know what the **** he's talking about either.:lol: And trust me, its not me, I understand Terrence Malick films.:lol: And that ain't a walk in the park.

    Dr. Strangelove, Spartacus, Lolita and yes even Barry Lyndon I love, 2001 is the only Kubrick film I'm so so on.

    @CST80

    I don't watch films widely enough to comment on many of the directors in your list, however Hitchcock #1 is something I wholeheartedly agree with!

    Kurosawa is way too low there for my tastes. One of the greatest directors of all time. Taratino is someone I adored growing up but he's a derivative director who has almost no unique vision of his own. Almost everything the man has ever done is flat out derivative of an earlier film.

    Kurosawa helped define the careers of multiple men you have above him, like Spielberg, who fawned over and rushed to help finance Kurosawa's own final projects in the 1980's along with Coppola.

    Spielberg and Coppola themselves wouldn't say they were greater directors than Kurosawa. :lol:
