The only ending that I don’t quite get is Inception. IS THE DAMN TOTEM STILL SPINNING OR NOT? Outside of Insomnia, which just seemed like a really lazy effort, I like his films. I’m with you on Danny Boyle. To this day, I still don’t get how everyone loves Trainspotting, I didn’t even watch the whole thing, I had to turn it off it was that bad
I think he was just throwing his hands up and going with it, he didn't care whether it was reality or fantasy, he wanted whatever it was. Whether the top fell or not was irrelevant, to Nolan and to Leo, almost like you can make reality whatever you want it to be. Maybe, who knows. Trainspotting is a masive piece of ****, the only thing I liked about it was Kelly McDonald nude.
If anyone is a super hero geek like me, but likes thriller type programmes, you have to watch Gotham. It's one of the best series I've ever seen. Although I'm only up to season 3 so no spoilers allowed. But it's up there with the likes of 24, GOT, Walking Dead, FTWD, Lost
Its such a pity that people buy into all these faux intellectual directors, while shunning the real deal in Terrence Malick, if you haven't seen this film, I encourage not only you, but the rest of the people on this thread to do so. Its one of the deepest and revelatory film going experiences I've had in the last two decades, and it moved me to my core, it frustrates the hell out of me that this film isn't more well regarded, but it was virtually ignored by the Hollywood hipsters in spite of it being nominated for Best Picture, because its above all of their pay grades, they're just not on Malick's level. Nolan talks a lot of nonsense and he and they don't really know what he's talking about, but like with the Emperor's New Clothes, they go along with it, that's what the in crowd does, it helps that his films have a lot of spiffy special effects and look really awesome, so they can easily fake it. But Malick is another kettle of fish, because he plumbs the depths of the human soul and our interconnectedness with family, God, life, death, afterlife, grace, love, beauty, soul, memory, friends, nature and time itself, but since they're all empty and vapid people, its lost on them. You want genuine existentialism and metaphysicalism, this film delivers in spades, its brilliant with a capital B. i'll have to give them a watch this weekend and let you know. is Tree of Life the film that won a Palm D'or or whatever it is?
Can't speak for the more recent films on the list, but a very good selection of older classics. Glad to see Mrs. Miniver (1942) there; it's really good film that people havemostly forgotten.
i've been meaning to get around to watching that. I've just finished a show called Killing Eve that was one of the best i've seen in a long, long time and would recommend that. The acting performances from the two leads, mainly Jodie Comer are unbelievable
