No, you are right. America is strong but it isn't strong enough to take the burdens of the whole world on it's shoulders. Unchecked immigration would destroy the economy and the culture, destroying the fragile balance of our ecosystem. We can accommodate a certain healthy amount of immigration, and whether we are currently at the limits of that healthy amount is a worthy argument to debate, but there must be limits.

If we are guided by the Christian ethic, then there need be no limits, and we are duty bound to help everyone who asks to the very limits of our ability. The Christian ethos says very explicitly that we should let the poor live in our houses and if we see somebody without clothes to share our own with them, etc. However, that is an ideal not everyone shares, and which those who do share find damn near impossible to practice.

I'm afraid that in cases like this, we must give in to practicality and the American philosophy of pragmatism. That doesn't mean we need to act greedily and purely through self-interest. But it means that there are limits to our compassion and we need to strike a compromise between reality and our ideals. A measured response is best.

That said, just because the people can't stay in our country doesn't mean we should be breaking up their families at the border. A measure of compassion is required.

I love guns. All of my friends have guns, but I think we need a constitutional amendment banning guns. The harm they do far outweighs the fun they bring.

At the very least, and I think this is a suitable compromise, people shouldn't be aloud to own military grade weapons. Now, all of my friends have AK47s and such, but they don't need them. They are super fun, but I'm sure we could still protect ourselves and have fun with regular pistols, hunting rifles, and shotguns. School shootings will still happen. Maniacs will still maniac, but the body count will be brought down substantially. And isn't that the job of law enforcement, not to eliminate crime, which is impossible, but rather to bring it down to an acceptable level?

Or we could maybe pass a law saying nobody gets a gun until they are 21. Doesn't eliminate mass murder but it would somewhat curb school shootings, although I do realize that many kids get their guns from their parents.

I'm pro-life, but I think that our society is so unjust that when abortions are illegal we actually have more loss of life what with the deregulation and criminality. Women will just be throwing themselves down stairs, sticking wire coat hangers up their pussies, or visiting back ally quacks who frequently **** their patients. Also, I value the life of the mother, the full grown adult more than the life of the fetus.

For now, we need legal abortion, even though that means millions of babies die. The alternative is that millions of babies still die, but so do millions of women. Abortion can only be ethically made illegal when society is willing to support pregnant women through nine months of pregnancy. That means they should get free housing, food, and medical care. After which, our adoption programs and orphanages need to be amazing, so that we can care for the lives we save.

I'm very free speech. I don't even like the restrictions and censorships we have now. I'd like to see hard core pornography on basic cable during the day or beheading videos on ABC news. I love vulgarity, profanity, obscenity, etc. My favorite shows are Sopranos and Deadwood cocksucker! It's called freedom. Words are ideas. We need to let them move and circulate freely so that they can compete and the best ones will come out on top. I hate the puritanical repression I'm seeing from the left these days. PC police don't say this don't say that. Bunch of Nazis.

At the same time, I've wondered if any right should be without limits. Like we still don't want libel and slander. You can't insight violence or shout fire in a crowded theater which would cause a stampede or riot. Maybe, we shouldn't be able to threaten people or defame certain religious figures?

Yep, I'm a liberal, but the progressives scare me more than the conservatives. They are a bunch of zealots who are always freaking out about everything. Things are actually pretty good on the whole. We're all rich and well fed. Let's go to Sizzler.
