Danton and Jean de Florette are worth seeing. I don't like a lot of French films but Depardieu was in the zone back then, like a French Deniro. As for The Verdict it's a Sydney Lumet directed, Paul Newman starring, David Mamet scripted film. One of the best courtroom dramas ever. I can see why you might be bored by Das Boot, because it's mostly confined to a small setting, but some of those scenes are just intense, especially in the end when they get sunk, rise, and have to run the blockade. Chariots of Fire is good, and if you don't like the Christian theme, at least listen to the beautiful score. It's kind of odd you don't like Monty Python, Mel Brooks, Airplane, Ferris Bueller, or Blues Brothers. Ordinary People is a film about depression, suicide, death, and the break up of a family. It is depressing but it nails the reality of certain things with an uncanny precision and is smartly done. It's real everyday drama like Kramer vs Kramer, instead of magical robots. I saw Stalker around the same time I saw Seven Samurai and they changed my notion about what cinema could be. Tarkovsky is just so different from most commercial films. Bruce Lee may be overrated, but he's still fun for the action scenes. You're right, I did say Monty Python's Holy Grail twice. Swap the 1974 one out for Bob Fosse's Lenny.
