    Anyone want to give me some details on why they're favoring one guy over the other in the Kimura/Tanaka bout? Watching tape on it now and trying to get the best feel that I can for the fight.

    I've watched the Fuentes destruction a few times since it happened and I still really like that performance. Clinical, very precise and powerful. I think he showed real composure and skills in that fight.

    Both men are aware that a victory tomorrow will bring a lot of good in their careers, so I expect Tanaka and Kimura to go full throttle and to finally answer your question, I think Tanaka's speed and technique will get him the victory, although with this being his 3rd weight class where his fighting at. You have to wonder if he has reached his ceiling.

    I'm really wondering how size is going to figure into this, how much bigger is Kimura? He's fought on and off at flyweight since the beginning of his career, where as like you said Tanaka is coming up from 105. Have to remember that despite his stylistic and athletic shortcomings Kimura is all pressure, all the way.

    I lean Kimura, partially because I love his style, which I'm biased towards, but also because he's found his niche and perfected it, and its a suffocating type of pressure, very Granados and Porter like, and I think he can stand up to the power of Tanaka, but I don't think Tanaka will stand up to his pressure and power mentally or physically and he'll eventually wilt and succumb to it.

    According to the pre medical examination. Both men are the same height, with Kimura having a longer reach and chest. Tanaka's defense has always been rather leaky and with Kimura's pressure you gotta wonder if Tanaka will be able to withstand the pressure. :chuck:

    Not very much, maybe a little against Saludar, who was beating him at the time of the stoppage, but he's not even close to as relentless as Sho and when has he faced a guy as relentless as Kimura? There's a first time for everything.

    Fuentes tried being relentless and applying pressure and in pockets it looked like it was working... but the accumulation from Tanaka's sharp counters and power punches was eventually just crippling.

    I've seen Kimura just march in a lot without a jab or moving his head... Just walks in straight lines without any set ups or jabs... I understand it's part of his style but it's reckless all the same and not something a world class fighter in a fight like this should be doing.

    I get it, and have the same concern, but I have faith in his chin, clearly Fuentes was on the way out, he was destroyed in a round by Higa and was just the recipient of one of Chocolatito's more violent KO's. Aside from that, I don't think Tanaka has astonishing power, at least not enough to truly bother Kimura all that much, although I could be wrong, I'm going with Kimura on a gut feeling.
