I thought Golovkin won the first fight, but GGG has no one to blame but himself. When you fight someone who gets the nod from the judges most of the time like Canelo, you have to make sure there's no question who won the most rounds. Golovkin should have worked the body more. GGG may have landed more punches, but a lot of those punches were jabs, and I felt Canelo landed the more eye-catching punches.

Fair enough, but what does this have to do with Kirk's league?

I didn't want to make a thread about it, so I thought this would be a good place to put it.

The bookies know better than either of us, you can book that!

I like Caterall and had him in a huge parlay in his last bout. I dig the guys dedication to the game, his body punching. But... I also had him separate ITD and was immensely disappointed he couldn't put away a regional level Irish guy who had nothing but size and a negative style with lots of movement. To me, between that and the Tyrone bout I think we can clearly see Caterall's ceiling.

Davies doesn't have a better boxing mind than Caterall, nor more skill, or better combinations, any of that. But he's rangier, more powerful, with dangerous power in both hands and likely more speed.

How do the bookies formulate the odds aside from the obvious boxrec and home venue, anyone hazard a guess? I wouldn't have thought they'd be strangers to boxing forums tbh...

what?! bookies rarely take huge notice of the boxing unless its a massive event, its likely your american bookie is just copying the UK bookies odds. Put Catterall in another parlay he wont let you down. you dont think you know more about boxing than a bookie? i know they have experts working for them 24/7 but we watch boxing week in week out. if you asked me about a similarly leveled fight in america, it would be different i wouldnt have a clue. Catterall is sharp, tight defensively and clever a less talented Taylor but still a bad match up for open o'hara davies.

If it's so easy surely you're making a killing week in week out on gambling, especially since you have access to far more odds at much earlier times than American bettors?

no because i bet stupid once i get confident and on a winning streak. if i bet less careless and put a bigger wager on fights like this i would be in good profit. And Russell i didnt say i know everything about every boxer in the world, but i do know british fights. im pretty sure thats why im high up in the league because my british fight record is pretty hot, but then again my latin, asian and lower level american boxing knowledge is poor then its just record looking and a few videos to make my pick, id lose alot of money. dont you do well in the MMA anyway? surely its because you know a little more than the bookie, or dont realise why the odds are so good and go for it.

*Catterall will beat Davies, dont be so shocked if he does it by late TKO when davies loses his shape and starts to gas. Im more confident in this one than i was when i picked Big Rob to beat Teper last week.

Some bookies copy other odds; the large bookies have a team to set reasonable odds … then they are adjusted quickly according to the money flow.

How many / how knowledgeable the people that set the odds are varies widely, however in general I'd say most of the serious fans here would know more about boxing.

But remember that they are not trying to predict the true odds of the fight, simply the betting patterns associated with the fight. There's a big difference; that's why McGregor was supposed to have a chance vs Floyd according to the bookies.
