I'm not saying he has the greatest voice in the world by any stretch. Just showing that he can did indeed sing and doesn't need to scream to mask deficiencies in his voice.

 

Do you think a contemporary artist who paints a blue square or drips paint randomly on a canvas is the equal of Rembrandt "because that's what he meant to do?"

 

I'm not a fan of DD or Disturbed in the slightest but you have realize that as a singer those like him(relatively speaking here) scratch a different kind of itch that a classically trained opera singer does. Obviously not anywhere near as talented though.

I do realize that they scratch a different itch, and I'm resigned to the level of quality generally accepted in popular music. I accept that when I listen to popular music the lyrics will generally be childish, the tunes will be simple, and the singing will be mediocre but passionate. Most of this stuff is made for tweens by teens. They only have to be so good to be successful and they usually don't have the ambition or motivation to compose something as complex as Dark Side of the Moon or Stairway to Heaven. Even the singer songrwriters that do like Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, or Neil Young would probably be better off with some other vocalist singing their songs.
