I kind of like kickboxing or mma. Only the blood sports. But not wrestling, that's too slow and boring. It ruins a lot of mma for me too because it slows down the striking. Kickboxing is pretty good, because strikes are the most exciting, but you have to be more of a generalist like with mma so the striking usually isn't as high quality and specialized as a boxing purist. With muay thai you get the addition of knees, throws, and elbows, but you also get more grappling and they don't throw combos. Savate is alright.

What I really like, and wish they'd do more of is weapon fighting. There was a show called Full Metal Jousting that was awesome. I like watching marksmanship videos with guns, bows, slings, knife or axe throwing. Stick fighting is interesting. Kendo is good. I really like when they do real mixed martial arts and have a stick fighter fight a kendo fighter. Historical European Martial Arts is good. Fun to see people use spears, staffs, wearing armor, etc.

These guys are still unparalleled as far as their style of Death Metal is concerned.

Hobbs on the axe and Smith on the drums. Both created two completely new styles of playing.

I realized all of that when I was much younger, I knew I had to prioritize, so I put the comic books on the backburner and the actual books, I still read one occasionally. I never listen to podcasts, I cut out the video games entirely. I love art, was an art student, but my dedication to that has waned. I want to be an extremist and a completest in everything I care about, but I just know that that's impossible, and I had to pick and choose.

So instead of wasting 4 hours a day watching a football game or baseball and basketball game, like most guys. I have 4 predominant passions, film, music, boxing and cycling, and those 4 take up far too much of my time, so I decided to focus on them. I cheat with the cycling, I don't watch all 5 hours everyday of the Grand Tours, the only ones I'll do that with are the mountain stages, but I'll try to fast forward to through it, check for crashes, then slow day and watch the last hour to an hour and a half for the flat stages. Boxing I watched casually for years, just catching stuff on HBO and Showtime, not putting any effort into watching the classics, that wasn't even an option for me until about 15 years ago when Youtube showed up, so by then I was already set in my ways. But with film and music, hey I grew up in a violent slum, and I didn't like hanging out outside very much, so that was easy to lose myself in. As far as film and music since I'm getting older, I can't find the time to watch as much, because TV dramas cut into it, so that's another reason why I can't be as devout, also that's why I'm not like the rest of you, people are shocked I haven't binged through Westworld yet, nope I get those in, the old fashioned way, watch one a week.

I'm an excellent time manager, perhaps a stickler, a damn near fascist about it. I have an internal clock tat's micromanaging everything so I can get it in, I don't even use an alarm clock, I wake up right on time without it, I'm that regimented.

Guys for those who haven't seen it yet, I recommend you have a look at the classic forum, fleaman is doing a weekly section on the top ten BW fighters of all time.

He's probably the best article writer we've ever had on this site. Very articulate and really knows his stuff.

The lower weights don't often get a lot of coverage and usually just geeks like me who've bothered watching fights from yesteryear in that weight class.but it's well worth a read.

    Highly recommend it.

I didn't play any video games for about seven years, then I decided to treat it like I treat other artforms and made a list of the best ones I hadn't played. Being systematic is so much better than random. I remember when I started being systematic with movies I might have watched 8 1/2, Network, Gone With the Wind, and Sunset Boulevard all in the same week. The year I started playing video games again, it cut badly into my reading and films but I played Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect 2, Resident Evil 4, Batman Arkham City, Half Life 2, Skyrim, Portal 2, Fallout 3, Bioshock, Grand Theft Auto 4, and Assassins Creed 2 that year. It blew away all the gaming I'd done in childhood.

I'll give you props. You know your film, boxing, and music, even if we don't always see eye to eye. When it comes to cycling, I've never watched it so I couldn't gauge how much you know. I'll agree that Westworld was one of the best shows I've ever seen too, but I mostly waited until the seasons were over and binge watched them. The first season was so confusing though I had to watch it twice to understand what was happening.

Time management is my worst skill. I feel like I could live ten lifetimes if I just managed my time better.

I played NES when I was a kid, had all the cool games like Double Dragon, Metroid, Castlevania, the Mario Bros. games etc. Then as a teen I started playing PC games like Nam, WWII, Duke Nuke 'Em, Doom, Delta Force, Aliens vs. Predator etc. Then I got a PS2 and played the early GTA games, up until San Andreas, and only sparingly, then realized, I was wasting my time, so said **** it, and cut them out of my life completely, cold turkey.... and make no mistake, even light playing of these things are addictive, I had withdrawals. Or let's just say compulsions non stop to play them, but I wouldn't let myself.

Thanks, and yeah I'm pretty solid on cycling as well, I know about as much as I know about boxing, that is... post 1992ish. I started watching it in 2001, and I researched back to the Miguel Indurain era and know everything since very well, and know quite a bit about the 70's and 80's as well, and the prominent figures from the 40's through the 60's. But I'm far from an aficionado on those eras.

I go through phases. Combat sports and music are the two most consistent passions in my life though. Although sometimes I binge the hell out of video games and watching movies/shows.

Hitting a hooker with a baseball bat filled a part of me that I never knew was empty before then.
