Chad Grey, Mudvayne & Hellyeah: Dime called me one night about 2 in the morning, frantic, he was locked out of his house and needed a place to stay. We were on the road at the time, playing in Texas that night, so naturally I offered to get him a hotel room. He declined the offer, he wanted me too come over and help him smash the windows so he could sleep in his own bed. I caved in, went to Dime's place. Arriving there, I see Vinny [Paul} and Dime sitting on the front lawn, jamming. The front door wide open, amps, cords stretched out to the lawn. Dime looks up at me and without missing a beat he utters, "Hey, BTG me, let's ****ing jam". [BTG is Black Tooth Grin, a liquor based drink popularized by Dime]. I knew then I was suckered into a jam session at 2 in the morning, but I'd do it all over again for one moment with Dime.

Tommy Lee, Motley Crue: Backstage at one of our shows I get a telegram, a ****ing telegram, from Dimebag, attached to a gift wrapped box. The telegraph read, sorry for the Hepatitis, love you. The gift, was Pamela [Anderson] and my video, but Dime had his face dubbed over Pamela's the whole video. Needless to say, it was the most watched video on our tour, Nikki Sixx even requested copies of it to pass along as gifts.

Zakk Wylde, Black Label Society: Dime was the first Black Label brother laid to rest in full colors. But one story sticks out to me on who Dime was. We were in Arlington Texas at a Guitar shop for a demo, there had to be at least 1,500 people there. The store donated a guitar that Dime and I autographed, to be raffled. Dime drew the number and some pimply face 15 year old boy won the guitar. Dime presented him the guitar. The look on that kid's face, man I started crying, it was so surreal seeing a ****ing legend like Dime passing the torch to that kid. But Dme wasn't done, no not ****ing Dime. Brother went into the store and purchased every guitar they had and we sat there autographing about 2,000 guitars. Everyone in the audience got a guitar signed by us. That was the Dime I knew....then I got my credit card bill for that month, $49,000....****ing Dime charged the guitars to me, and that's the Dime I love.

Sebastian Bach, Skidrow: Dimebag was at one of our shows, during sound check, its usually just the band and the roadies in the arena, setting up, making sure everything is proper. Not this night, we did sound check in front of a packed house of over 10,000 rabid fans. Dime had let them in, so fans can see what musicians do when they're not getting drunk or rocking, as he poetically put it. I'll never forget seeing this one kid in the front row just jamming out, head banging, singing all the lyrics. Then out of the corner of my eye, I see Dime, arm around the kid, both blaring out the lyrics. The smile that kid had, **** Nathan Gale, man I miss you Dime. Love you brother.

Billy Milano, Stormtroopers of Death: Back in the late 90's Scott Ian and I were sitting at his house, shooting the ****, drinking, you know rockstar ****. Dimebag just walks in the through the door, unannounced, yells "honey, I'm home", walks over to Scott, gives him a kiss on his bald head. That was Dime, he was the type that pull that off. If Charlie [Benante] or I did that, we would be banned from Scott's house.

Chris Jericho, WWE Wrestler & Musician: Best Dime story, my band had a show in Texas. A lot of the fans came to our shows just based on my name recognition, we were not really a great band, but we tried. So before our set, we look out in the crowd, ****ing empty. Noone there. So I call the club manager, and he tells me that we called him earlier that day and cancelled the show. Needless to say, we were all ****ed, but I ended up convincing him we did not cancel, and the call must have came from an outsider that did not like us. We decided, **** it, we're going to play anyways. Well we get the equipment on stage, we do a quick sound check, everything's good to go. We start the set and all lights, sounds gone. Now here we are, alone, on stage in a dark venue, and we have no way to navigate around to see where the stage stairs are, without bumping into our equipment. Then a voice comes over a megaphone, it's ****ing Dimebag. Screaming, "You suck, Boo, all the heckler **** bands dread hearing". The lights come back on and Dime is sitting in the back row, just Rita [Haney], Dime's wife and him. I laughed, I cussed, the band wanted to kill him; then he did somethng that literally dropped me to my knees crying. Dime had found out through a local radio station of a 12 year old cancer patient that was a fan of my wrestling, as well as my music. So Dime rented the building for the night, invited the kid and all his friends for a private show. Instead of beer and liquor, we were all doing shots of kool-aid and punch. Best ****ing show of my life, and to see the look on that kid's face, man that is the reason Dime was unique. He knew had to make every moment magical.

Kerry King, Slayer: Dime, my ****ing brother. One night we are sitting at his house, jamming, smoking, drinking, the whole nine yards. Dime asks me if i would be willing to do a show, just Zakk [Wylde], him and I. Why the **** not, the Three Amigos doing a one night set. ****ing Hell on Earth. So his manager sets it up, we book some no named dive bar in butt **** Texas. We used the alias ****s The show is promoted as 3 musicians from South Carolina that could get a major record deal, so the crowd was encouraged to shout We love ****s. The lights go dim, Zakk and I are doing the intro, we walk out on stage to the chants, Zakk looks at me, I look at the crowd; we both look over off stage and Dimebag is literally doubled over laughing in pain. That mother ****er booked us at an all male loving type club. Zakk and I in our biker vest, looking like Bears. Zakk belts out the National Anthem, the chants go from ****s to USA USA! Never in my life have I played such a crazy fun set, all thanks to Dime. I believe that was also the first show Zakk and I ever did, where neither of us were completely ****-faced drunk afterwards. We found out later that Dime had actually donated like $100,000 to some anti-*******ual bullying campaign, so Zakk and I matched his offer.

Is it wrong of me that I get annoyed with all of the post death hero worship by Metalheads no offense moparfan, but we guffaw far too often and try to make guys out to be gods among men after they die, like with Randy Rhodes and Cliff Burton which has always rubbed the wrong way as well, Newsted and Wylde never got the credit they deserved because they were always in their shadows. I love Dimebag he seemed like a great guy, and he way he died was awful, but as someone who plays guitar, while innovative he was no Eddie Van Halen and beyond the first 4 Pantera albums he fell into a repetitive rut. I thought Damageplan was a joke to be honest and I feel the same way about Hellyeah, whereas Phil gets unfairly bashed while he's excelled I Down, Superjoint and The Illegals.

No offense taken, I do agree with the EVH reference and the Wylde and Newsted being in their shadows reference.

But the only time metal music does get some mainstream recognition is with death (Smoot & Brockie with GWAR, Rhoades, Burton, Dimebag, etc).

I could have mentioned it was also the anniversary of John Lennon, but I failed to do so, so that was my bad.

In closing, Dimebag was always one of my idols in music; along with Wylde, Eddie Van Halen, Rhoads, Trujillo, Newsted....so I felt necessary to make numerous posts about him....I do apologize...!!!

Quit being so sensitive, I get it and see where you're coming from but personally I think guys like Dio and Peter Steele deserve more credit and I see people making over the ****ing singer of Drowning Pool or bassist from Slipknot more than those two, Dimebag deserves it far more than those two do.

Everyone else heaps praise on Lennon, no need for that either. I'm not the most mushy guy in the world and tend to roll my eyes when people are, which is a real shortcoming of mine.

Praise away, everyone needs to know who Dimebag is on here, the more exposure the better, but I'm mainly referring to it from an insider perspective.

God damn shame that Dio and Steele never got the proper respect while they were alive, and in their death...!!!
