Yeah, I had it 116-112 to Akira myself, but technically speaking Ioka is now #1 by some distance based on results. Yaegashi obviously is right behind him and does need a rematch, hopefully sooner than later...but for now going by what's on paper he must be put below. Joyi probably doesn't drop too low, considering he was shutting Rodriguez out until the stoppage, but he's certainly not in the argument for #1 (or even #2) anymore. Rodriguez is really a journeyman who achieved well above his station. Who else is up there? Budler, who has yet to pick up a meaningful win since dropping down from light fly? Cuello? The shell of Calderon? :!: Outside of Japan, strawweight is pretty flimsy.
I'd probably list the top 10 as: 1. Ioka- Clear number 1 as you say. 2. Yaegashi- I also scored it for Yaeg but was by no means a robbery and a rematch is required. 3. Rodriguez -I realise his record looks **** on paper but since his last loss in 2010 to Donnie Nietes who's now gone up to light flyweight he has 3 decent wins Jimenez, Keb Bass and now Joyi. 4. Joyi -As you say, he was probably unlucky so I don't want to be too harsh on dropping him low- I've noticed The Ring has dropped him to 7th which is unfair in my book as he easily beat there number 3-Raul Garcia, who's moved up so shouldn't be listed, number 8- Condes, who hasn't fought in a year, and number 9- Takayama despite the fact he looked to have a leg injury for most of the fight. 5. Juan Hernandez -his only loss in the last 6 years was against Ioka and has a win over the the bloke I have at 6 (by SD) and fringe contender for me, Cuello by DQ. 6. Moises Fuentes- Based mainly on his win over Raul Garcia. 7. Wanheng Menayothin- Unbeaten and a good win over Condes 8. Hekkie Budler- I do think he has one reasonable win since moving to Strawweight over Michael Landero who was on a decent roll going into the fight 9. P. Pronpramook (I went for him over Calderon as he hasn't done **** since moving back down and Pron has only lost to decent fighters and deserves to be ranked on his performance against Yaegashi alone). 10. P. Koietgym- Unbeaten noone on his resume of major note but his knocking out his opponents at a decent rate. I don't rate Cuelleo as I'm not overly impressed with anything he's done. I know I ranked Budler on the back of a win over Landero but Landero hadn't had a win in 3 fights at that point. Calderon's only win since moving back down is a SD over a bum. Takayama has lost every time he's stepped up and Jesus Silverstre has lost his 2 biggest fights. Sabillio and Buitrago have unbeaten records but haven't proved much yet.
Tony Bellew SD Vitali Klitschko KO Tomasz Adamek MD Antonio DeMarco UD Chad Dawson SD Lucas Martin Matthysse KO
Very good and thorough ranking. :thumbsup I pretty much agree, other than I might not have Budler in there at all, and might've bumped up both Thais a spot each and/or swapped them around, and snuck Cuello in there at the bottom. Not that I'm overly impressed with the pinoy myself, and would be reluctant to place him due to the ridiculous hype that enshrouds anyone halfway decent from that country by a certain vociferous fan base...but he did recently hammer the WBC #1 contender and is Ring Mag #7 and Ioka's mandatory. (although personally I'd rather see Yaegashi get a crack at a rematch before Cuello gets his shot on the strength of beating Ganigan freaking Lopez...)
I just dont want to have anyone at nr 1. There is definitely no "man of the division". It was a close fight and Ioka could have won it. He will be moving up anyways so i guess Yaegashi will be at the top.
I had it 115-113 for.....I don't remember lol. I just remembered that after scoring, I felt it could have went the other way as well.
The hype train on Cuello basically began after his DQ loss to Hernandez in Mexico. To me he was at the wrong end of a judgement call by the ref and then people started paying more attention after he became the first to stop Rachman (albeit a shot version of him). I still wasn't totally impressed with him at that point. But then he showed improvements in his next couple of fights against not-so-good opposition that got me seeing him as a very talented, hungry, and dangerous fighter in the division. But of course, he hasn't done much yet aside from wins against Rachman and Lopez. Reminds me a bit of how Chocalitito did before he got a title shot actually.
