I'm released at last! might as well come back with a bang! PAST CLASSICS : Ricardo Mayorga vs Vernon Forrest This content is protected This content is protected Ricardo Mayorga 23-3-1 (21 KO's) VS This content is protected Vernon Forrest 35-0 (26 KO's) --------------------------------------------------------------- Ricardo Mayorga: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8ZP_yx194I[/ame] Vernon Forrest: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzzYlMfkbJ4[/ame] ------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------ This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ An absolute barnstormer. Mayorga was seen as crude but effective, Forrest was the next big star of boxing. Surely the man who had just dethroned the great Sugar Shane Mosley would have no trouble out smarting this wild brawling bad lifestyle leading madman right? Wrong! The two things Forrest did not account for in this match: Mayorga's terrible lack of defence and Mayorga's outstanding iron jaw. Forrest found it all too easy tagging Mayorga, he began to get closer and closer in range having success with his ram rod jab and his straight crosses. Mayorga just laughed the shots and came firing back, very soon the fight became a war of attrition, the fight became Mayorga's ideal. They traded blows, every time Forrest went back behind the jab Mayorga swung wildly leaving himself open and encouraging Forrest to go on the attack. Eventually Mayorga's tactic paid off, Forrest lost his gameplan entirely and could not take the blunt force trauma Mayorga was dealing him. Amazingly, just 3 rounds in and Forrest is on his back, the fight is over and this cigar smoking, unskilled, once journey man was the new unified champion of 147. Great fight whilst it lasted, with another great rematch in which Mayorga proved his success was no fluke. History will show that as heralded as Forrest was and as unheralded as Mayorga is, Vernon would never be a match for Ricardo. They could fight ten times and Forrest would never figure out the wild swinging Nicaraguan. Unfortunately this series of fights signalled the end of both fighters primes, both would go on to capture a title at 154, but neither would ever reach the lofty heights again. When else in history can someone take flush clean shots yet still appear to win the exchange? Nice page Luf, thanks for putting it up m'man. Always love the contributions from our members :thumbsup Its funny but I really think its cool when I see the fights you guys feature. Love it. I am going to tweak it a bit here and there on the repost if you dont mind, just adding a few of the links, and the 'In the spotlight' header, but you did a great job. And that goes for anyone else, if you have a fight or fighter you want to spotlight.... you can see the format, go ahead and follow it and post it up, I will touch it up then repost it a few times throughout the thread. One thing I will add though, is obviously, in here we keep it as respectful as we can to the fighters. So if something doesnt fit the bill imo, I will tweak things a bit to make it fit. Hasnt happened yet, we have the best boxing fans in here for the most part and dont expect anything like that, but just putting it out there.
