Id like to widdle it down to 35 fights..... give or take a handful. I can do it if nobody else wants to, but there are many more knowledgable people here who know what the best and most meaningful fights are out of these then I.

The story of Rubin "The Hurricane" Carter, is one of those unique and absolutely amazing stories that every boxing fan should know.

Through out his early years as a boy, teenager, and young man he was in and out of prison. He started his boxing career in 1961 and had a lot of success with his relentless aggressive style.

The first 2 years of his career he fought tough competition, but won most of his fights. The world first took notice of him, when he completely annihilated the former 4 time, and 2 divisional champion Emile Griffith. This cleared the way for his first and only title shot against Joey Giardello.

He lost this fight by UD, after having had alot of success in the early rounds. Some people claim the decision to have been somewhat controversial.

In 1967 Rubin Carter was sentenced for the murder of 3 white people. He claimed to be innocent and during his prison time alot of people, including Bob Dylan, walked the streets demanding his release.

Carter sat in jail for almost 20 years.

During his time in prison he wrote the book: The Sixteenth Round, in which he told his story.

He lost an appeal twice before a white jury. After hard work he got an audience before the federal court. This time he had more luck and was released by Judge Haddon Lee Sarokin.

Today he lives in Toronto and works as the executive director of the "Association in Defense of the Wrongly Convicted".

After his release he was awarded the WBC Middleweight title, an honor that never has been giveng outside the ring.
