Kirckland was lucky as hell that he didn't get Ko'ed in 1 round, and that Angulo punch himself out like a idiot.

Yeah, he was a bit lucky there. But, you can't really blame Angulo there the first real, good, clean blow he landed Kirkland went down...he probably figured, hell, if Ishida knocked him out in 1, I can do the same. Kirkland did show big time balls and heart to recover in a couple of minutes and put Angulo on his arse. It's a little bit of both.

A bit lucky. I think the stars aligned for Kirkland tonight. He has close no chance of winning a rematch against Angulo, he was on his way to being Ko'ed in 1 round for the second time. There's no excuse like Khan against Prescot. This dude was heading on to his second round1 ko loss, that's not a coincidence, it shows how auful he is against top guys, and how fragile his chin is.

Kirkland wound up taking some big punches in the rounds following at some points, Kirkland is the kind of fighter that warms up as he goes along, so number one, theres no telling that angulo would enter a rematch with kirkland even close to the same as he was in this fight, nor with a healthy mentality, after getting beaten like that, and on top of that, whoever puts kirkland down better hope that he either stays down, or the ref stops it, because theres really no saying that kirkland wouldnt have gotten up against ishida and done the same thing to him.

Kirkland goes down early, thats just part of him as a fighter, his chin is not that good and his defence isnt either, but once he starts to roll and get warmed up, he really does become a different force.

I am under no illusions that he will rule 154, Im just happy for this victory, and also glad that an anticipated showdown like this actually lived up to expectations and then some.

However, while I am under no assumptions that Kirkland is going to be taking over 154, people shouldnt go overboard with too much cynical analysis of kirkland or this fight. Nobody gave Kirkland this W, he took everything Angulo had, and then came back, Angulo.... didnt.

So.... nothing really changes for me, I still think Kirkland probably falls short against plenty of fighters at 154, but thats why they fight. He was supposed to lose tonight and lose badly, and its the best win of his career.

Kirkland vs Canelo, Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, Cintron, Lara, Williams, Angulo, K9, Mayorga

are all worthwhile fights.... and honestly, I wouldnt count out Kirkland in any of them, but I also wouldnt count out him getting stopped in all of them. Hes a kill or be killed fighter, but I have a feeling his killing isnt quite over yet.

Before I go to bed I want to say that Angulo showed a ton of grit staying in there and taking that beating, my thoughts are with him and I hope that he checks out ok. I was starting to get worried for him the last couple rounds.... he is one tough warrior and hope he bounces back.

Much respect to the two warriors tonight. Feels good to have such a great fight....
