:thumbsup Yeah, Angulo would have been better served being yanked out of there a bit earlier. Too macho for his own good, and hopefully it doesn't shorten his career or good healthy years by too much...
One last thing, Frazier looks to be ill with cancer, just wanted to shine a light on him real quick, hope he can recover. A moving Frazier video, and one of my favs.... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFxiT5XRZ7I[/ame]
That era of elite fighters will never be forgotten. Best wishes to smokin Joe. Man I'm so bummed I missed the fight. Set the clock and all but apparently it started earlier than I expected. Whilst Kirkland as a person probably wont ever be one ill like, you have to give him all credit and respect for this win. Still some good fights to come today! WAR AOH!
Whata **** weekend for me...but god damn Kirkland's a beast. I know it sounds like cheap hindsight, but I had a feeling that was going to happen. I mean prior to the Ishida incident, Kirkland was viewed as a monster and most people had Angulo losing that fight in the first place. Then a prison sentence and an embarassing loss and he looks like a total underdog. I based my decision more on some of the sparring vids I've seen of him. It looked like he was stunned a few times from Vera and that was alarming to me. But I guess the guy is still a damn beast. I honestly feel the only guy to stand in Kirkland's way is Maravilla...if he ever decides to go back down. There is no JMW to stop him. That was the grittiest ****in' dude the division offered and he trucked his ass. Now the only person skillful enough with some serious grit is pretty boy Martinez. And I'm not even sure that'll be enough. Him and K9 would make a good fight.
bad weekend for me - nevermind. What I learnt last night: Angulo is a idiot - I can't believe he blew himself out in the first round, he scored the knockdown by picking a lovely shot and then just went wild trying to knock Kirkland out. About half way through round 1 I thought to myself Angulo is getting knocked out here, he was clearly running out of steam and just kept throwing. Props to kirkland though, he stayed composed and ground himself a quality win that puts him back on the map, he didn't go wild like Angulo did and just kept clever pressure on him till he was done. James Toney is completely washed up, I knew he was shot to a certain degree but not that bad. I picked him based on the fact that I don't rate Lebedev at all and I feel like a bit of a clown now. Fair play to Lebedev, he knew exactly what he was doing and ground out an easy win which puts his name about due to the named opponent. Toney needs to retire. Michael Katsidis is done at top level unless he wants to become a gatekeeper like boxer. Cote has plenty of potential but shouldn't get carried away and forget to defend himself. Other than that I'm looking forward to his next bout. Still not fully convinced that Bute is all that but he boxed well last night and I'm looking forward to seeing him in with any of the top fighters in the division - Froch, ward, kessler, Dirrell
