Round 1

Jab by Cotto. Lots of movement to the left by Cotto. The size difference...doesn't look the same as last time. Cotto has beefed up considerably. They look much closer to the same size in overall bulk. Cotto keeps circling left, bouncing. Long jabs by Cotto in the center of the ring. Margarito lunges with left jabs and misses. Nice jabs by Cotto landing from long range. Good footwork by Cotto. Margarito jabs and gets parried. Left hook by Cotto while turning Margarito. Pawing hook by Margarito. Right hand by Margarito, blocked. Cotto keeps circling to his left, and drops a 1-2 to the body. Lunging jabs by Margarito. Jabs traded at medium range. Cotto misses a long uppercut. HARD RIGHT BY COTTO, and Margarito answers back. Stiff jab to the face by Cotto. Flurry by Cotto. More movement to the left. Margarito misses a jab wide. Right hand by Margarito blocked as Cotto shrugs his arm up. Hard left hook, right hand by Cotto! Jabs by Cotto on the go.

Cotto is jabbing and circling left. HARD RIGHT HAND BY COTTO. Stiff high jabs by Cotto. Left hook to the body by Cotto stepping outside. Margarito is trying to walk into his man and is eating hard hooks to the head. Cotto is using excellent movement. BIG LEFT HOOK punctuating a combo by Cotto. Margarito isn't getting inside, and isn't pushing Cotto to the ropes. He is ineffective from outside. Grazing right to the body by Margarito. Cotto lands a long left hook and keeps moving. Cotto pushes off the balls of his feet and blocks some long Margarito jabs. Lunging right by Margarito falls short. Cotto circles rapidly to the left, now the right. They trade body shots, Cotto getting knocked back a step.

Jab, right, jab by Cotto while circling left. 1-2-3 by Cotto. Margarito isn't getting close to him. Just plodding after, and an odd body shot by Margarito. Fishing low, Margarito lobs rights in and grazes the body. Cotto bounces off the ropes and lands jabs and crosses while moving. Margarito walks into a hook to the cheek. Margarito's right eye is bleeding!!!! Cotto circles and dances away. Hard left jab to the eye by Cotto! Dancing away toward the corner and then rushing forward to flurry the body, Cotto is keeping Margarito off balance. Cotto spins Margarito to the ropes and flurries. Now Margarito tries to throw uppercuts, but Cotto is swallowing him up and banging away with hooks!!!!!!! 1-2 by Margarito. Left hook by Cotto!! Uppercut by Margarito!! HOOK BY COTTO!! HOOK BY COTTO!!! Jab by Margarito. Right by Cotto, circling. Margarito keeps pumping the 1-2 by getting blocked. Clinch. Jockeying for position, grabbing at each other's arms. Left hook to the body by Margarito. Long right hand by Margarito, missing. 1-2, blocked. They lock up in the middle of the ring until the bell.

Left hooks and right uppercuts by Cotto on the back foot, drawing Margarito onto sharp counters. Margarito is still fishing for body shots and drawing back an empty line. Margarito is trying to bash Cotto into the ropes but can't pin him down or even land a single shot. Leftward movement by Cotto. Jabs to the guard by Margarito. Cotto opens up with a 1-2 and is rocked back by a right hand. They lean together and tap away, Margarito going to the body and then hooking the head. Cotto straightens up and blasts him with a left hook to the head. Cotto pushes into Margarito and buys some space. Uppercuts by Margarito. 1-2 by Margarito, blocked. Left hook by Cotto. Clinch. Cotto taps the body. 1-2 by Margarito blocked again. Cotto is wrestling with him up close. Limp right to the body by Margarito. Another 1-2 by Margarito is blocked. Cotto jabs and moves. Cotto dances on his toes and backs out. Cotto shoves Margarito back. Margarito has some jabs blocked, and Cotto misses some jabs and rights.

Round 5

Cotto is sticking and moving. Margarito tosses some straight shots, blocked. Cotto is blocking and keeping on his toes. Margarito eats a hook coming forward, and cracks Cotto with a short one of his own. Cotto is stronger in the clinches, pushing Margarito back. Cotto dances to his left and covers up under fire, letting Margarito hit his gloves. High jabs to the face by Cotto, keeping off the ropes. Left hook to the body by Margarito. Right uppercut to the body by Margarito, countered by a BIG LEFT HOOK TO THE TEMPLE BY COTTO. Jab by Margarito, and hook by Cotto on the move.

Cotto pops and moves, still bouncing on his toes. Margarito is throwing long rights, getting blocked. Lots of punches by Margarito, but he's not closing the distance first and Cotto is making him chase and lunge. Hooks and uppercuts inside by Cotto! Cotto shoves and shrugs Margarito back. Hard left hooks by Cotto backing up and sliding along the ropes. Whipping left hook to the body by Cotto. Margarito waves out some jabs and Cotto slips them. Hooks by Cotto. Hooks to the body by Margarito. BIG left hook to the head by Cotto, and Margarito holds on and tackles Cotto into the ropes. Cotto jabs and stands his ground, shoving Margarito back when he gets close. Cotto circles left and pops jabs. Margarito tries to rush him into a corner but can't. Body shots by Cotto.

Cotto is bleeding too now.

Round 7

Cotto keeps moving, now circling mostly to the right but changing directions as needed to keep out of the corners. Margarito lands a right hand. Another hard right. Cotto lands hooks backing up. Leaning together, they trade to the bodies. Left hook by Cotto. Stiff jabs by Cotto, doubled. Lots of movement by Cotto. Margarito marches after him but can't cut the ring off. Constant pressure, though. Cotto is hopping all over the place, flicking out long jabs. Cotto meets Margarito in the middle of the ring and leans against him, slugging away. 1-2 up top by Cotto. Margarito is wrestled back to the ropes. RIGHT HAND by Cotto just after the bell!

Hard jabs by Cotto backing up. Cotto is breathing heavily but still moving better than Margarito. They pause to cut some tape off Cotto's glove. Smoger calls time in. More jabs by Cotto. More movement, back and to the left. Now switching to the right. Hard jab, hard right over the top by Cotto. Margarito marches forward. Cotto jabs, steps left, hooks, runs right. Margarito can't get close. Hard counter left hook by Cotto. Margarito places his hands on Cotto's hips and shoves him across the ring to the ropes but can't hit him cleanly. Combo upstairs by Cotto, targeting that eye. Margarito is plodding along after Cotto and throwing uppercuts with poor aim. Cotto leans into Margarito and pushes him toward the ropes. Margarito shoeshines the body and Cotto lands a BIG COMBO. MASSIVE LEFT HOOK BY COTTO!!

Taps to the body by Margarito, having little effect. Cotto hooks and backs out. HARD hooks by Cotto, and body shots. Stiff jabs to the face. Margarito is getting countered with every step he takes. Long right hand lead by Cotto. Margarito is wrestled back to the ropes, with Cotto buying some time and burning clock without getting hit. HARD COMBO TO THE FACE. Margarito has his head snapped back, but he shrugs at Cotto as if it didn't hurt.

I'm still awake. That's my answer. After 9, 10 rounds I'm on my feet.

At what point did you say "it didn't feel the same".

All the work that we did in camp and training sessions made me stay on my feet and achieve victory.

What's next after avenging the loss in this rematch?

I think I earned a really good resting session, and then in a couple of weeks we can talk about boxing.

I never felt a punch! I never was pulling back! If anything I went to the sides, he was the one who was pulling back!!

Well, it was gradually closing and he was losing vision. I felt it was safest to stop it

Did you stop it because of the concerns coming in about his eye?

Well that's always in the back of your head but his lids were CLOSED.

Were you hesitant to stop it because you felt it would be an unsatisfying conclusion for the fans?

Kirk, great job putting that togeather I was unable to watch the fight so with IB's rbr and the photo's gave a real good visual of the fight.
