    :thumbsup

I hate to say it, but I don't think Ishida wants to be on the same continent as Kirkland, let alone the same ring... LOL!!! :smoke

What made it so sweet was IMHO they were cashing out on Kirkland and feeding him to Angulo. There is no way in this day and age you put Kirkland and Angulo in with eachother without a strap being on the line. That should tell you everything about what was happening.

Kirkland is a gift to the 154 pound division.. A seek and destroy Bad ass! Angulo will bounce back, he just ran into a tougher MF tonight!

The conditions aren't all the same, but this sort of reminds me of what happened with Jermain Taylor and Edison Miranda. They really did think Miranda was going to walk through Kelly Pavlik and set up the Taylor-Miranda fight. Kelly Pavlik ripped those plans up and wiped his ass with them, by hammering Miranda in that fight. Then he goes on to take the MW title from Taylor himself.

I think Golden Boy was there tonight because they were itching to set up Saul Alvarez against Alfredo Angulo. But Kirkland showed that he was there to win tonight and proved to be the better man. Hopefully, he gets the Alvarez fight with full support behind it now, since that's what Angulo was likely to get. Though I'd love to see JK fight Ishida again with Wolfe on board, just to see how things go.

James Kirkland might have destroyed Golden Boy's plans tonight, but he rebuilt his career in 6 rounds. When he got up off the canvas in the 1st, that was really the moment his post-prison return to boxing fully restarted.

Good post. The situation reminded me of Taylor/Pavlik/Miranda too.

I thought Kirkland was done. I wasn't even sure he could win the fight based on if it went the distance he would definately lose, I was confused as to why GBP was putting him in this situation it seemed like a definate set up!

In the first round I was like "oh here we go again" but he fought with intelligence and I like to see that in a fighter I hope the world embraces him now. That was a special performance....

    Good for Kirkland.

Hope Angulo can bounce back from this defeat also.

    Fair play to the guy.
Fair play to Angulo as well,he had that #1 spot and we're being told by the commentators that he took this voluntary.I thought beforehand it had been ordered.
